A note about Hacket and the assault weapon incident....
Those kids were 18 years old. They were from Green Township Ohio. A middle-class and affluent subarb of Akron. They're traveling early in the morning at 4:30 AM. At some point they crash into Hacket's fence. Sane people call the police. Crazy people chase them down with assault rifles. Period.

4. Nor do I..
.... and it looks unlikely that he broke the law, so really it's end of freaking story.

5. I Do.
I keep a gun and if anybody breaks into my house I will defend it and especialy my family. I will not however, take that gun outside to chase someone who crashes into my fence and leaves. There is no threat to my or my family's life in that circumstance.

6. I Just Finally Read The Other Thread/Article. I Think He's A Bona Fide Whacko.
I agree with ya. He was just a tad over the top, and probably definitely suffers from some sort of mental disorders from his time in Iraq.

Holding kids at gunpoint because they accidentally drove into a fence is just a bit psychotic.

7. I think he did it for their own safety.
If they're crashing into fences at 430 AM they shouldn't be driving. Yes, it can be questioned. But I think he handled it OK given the fact that he's a public figure, a veteran, and God knows who wants to cause him harm. He's earned the right to be paranoid.

restraint and patience.

10. Let's not even ask if it was a targeting of Hackett
in deep-red Ohio.

If they were driving the truck that mowed down the crosses that the war-bereaved put up in memory of their family members, what would you be saying?

11. I've though about that too.
It was happening to a friend of mine just prior to the election last November. His house was being cased, and vandalized. I think I'd be concerned about the safety of my family at that point. And let's not forget, this is Paul Hackett, there are those out there who know where he lives and what he stands for. With the way republicans tend to "get their point across", well, that could make anyone a little edgy.
