Listen to this scam
I have a Bank of America Credit Card.

I have been wondering why I keep getting late charges on it.

Now this has been going on for quite some time.

I just thought that I was late because I pay my bills every 1-2 weeks.

Well come to find out, they send out my statement on the 12th or 13th of the month. They tell me it takes 7-10 days to get to me.

So that would mean I get the bill on the 3rd or 4th of the next month. And they have my payment due date as the 7th of the month.

Even if I had paid it the minute I got it, it would have never made it to them on time. They have been scamming me for well over a year.

3. What, are they mailing it 3rd class?
It shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 days. Even 10 would get it to you by the 23rd. I'm confused.

13. It's more than just mailing it...
The statements need to be printed and then stuffed into envelopes with all of those ads... It's not unlikely that this could take 3 business days.

4. They will do you if you let them
Register your account online, pay with ACH eft's, monitor your account closely, only takes a minute per session.

5. They also change the due date.
We had that happen to us (my partner and I) on both of our cards. It had always been due the 4th, and suddenly it was due the 27th. Of course, we were both late.

I'm conviced there is no clean credit card comp. any more.

6. Does not compute
You say they send it out on the 12-13th and takes 10 days to get to you (10 working days??? no way, mail never takes that long, does it?) -- you should get the mail before the end of the month.

How slow is the postal service for you?

8. My HSBC card is pretty similar
Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 07:42 PM by high density
It takes the statement so long to get here that I'd nearly have to mail out a check on the same day I got it or be late. I just check my activity and pay it online instead. It's not nearly as bad as the situation that you're describing though. It's pretty obvious that many banks are doing this to increase fee revenue. The due dates crept up by a week or so and the mailing of the statements has been slower, so the time is getting squeezed on both ends.

14. I have a BOA cc too, when I get the statement I always have 3 weeks or more
to make the payment. Something is bad awry there. First class mail should never take more than 3 working days anywhere in the USA.

18. That's More Than Enough Time, With All Due Respect. This Is Far From A Scam.
There is no reason you shouldn't be able to pay it on time within that timeframe.

16. I've Always Had Great Experiences With BOA. But Also, The Reality Is That Any
credit card company will tell you that your due date is your responsibility to keep track of and that your statements are a luxury not mandatory. Since they offer easy access to your account online, there really is no reason that you shouldn't be able to pay on time regardless of when you get your statement. Even if you don't feel secure paying online you could still easily reference your balance due there and mail it out on time.

But even in spite of that, I have a hard time believing BOA is doing this with any scam intention whatsoever. A simple phone call to them would probably clear it up really easily, and I'm sure they would waive any late charge it you told them you only received your bill a few days prior to the due date.

17. automatic pay
I have all my credit cards set to make an automatic payment of the minimum due. That way they can never gouge me out of $29.99 for failure to pay a, say, $15.00 minimum payment.

For my cards that refused to do this for me, I said bye bye and cut up the card. There are plenty of cards that will accomodate this request.

20. I don't wait for the bill...
I get my SSI about the 3rd of the month, and I sit down and pay ALL my bills right then and there.
Most of them haven't sent out their request yet, but I keep a 'master list' of what my bills are, the addresses where the payment goes, what the amounts usually run, and the account numbers, and I just put the account number on the memo line of the check.
Been doing this for 3 years now and haven't had any problems.

My bank very kindly changed my due date for my VISA card from the 3rd to the 15th after I explained to them about the SSI. Haven't had any problems with late charges.

I don't like to pay bills online...don't want that much info 'out there', especially with all the identity theft, and when I do mail my bills I take them directly to the post office so as to avoid check washers who might be lurking.

automatic bill pay. I used to make so many mistakes, now it's always correct.
