Question: Who owns Raytheon?
It certainly isn't GE. . NBC is crapping all over the Army, which is holding out for a Raytheon system over a more "ready" RPG defense system for the tanks over there...

6. Yeah, the autoloader they were demoing was a lab mock-up
At the time, I mentioned to my girlfriend that it looked mighty suspect.

7. It also kills dismounted troops nearby...a less than minor consideration

9. The MSM does not understand urban tactics
the IDF lost a relatively large number of Merkava tanks in Lebanon along with crews. We have not lost anywhere near that same number in Iraq.

The TROPHY system is somewhat effective, but it has no way of knowing if there are friendlies nearby. Its usefull only when everyone is secure inside armored vehicles. IT would have to be turned off if there is friendly infnantry in the immeidate area.

Tanks and AFVs without infantry support in urban areas are sitting ducks.

If you look at the video of combat operations in Iraq, what do you see...dismounted infantry interspersed with AFVs and HUMMVs.

The new Army integrated system (FCS) is based on everyone being wired. That way the tank's defensive system will know where friendlies are. Its not here today, but the Army has been making significant progress on it. Raytheon is not the only contractor involved.

The US already buys lots of stuff from Israel. Its one of the ways we support them. If there was something that was already here, I tend to believe the Army would go for it.

10. Thanks for the concise explanation.
While I am ex-SEAL (actually, I am eligible for call-up until I am 62 - six more years), I know very little about urban warfare.

I know just enough to stay in a constant state of pissed-off.

Same shit - different story.
