My candidate is the best!

and anyone who disagrees with me in this thread will be blocked in the future! This is what will happen with this new block reply feature.

A lot of threads will have agreement basically enforced.

1. I refuse to block anyone or anything.
I'm not afraid of ideas or the people who hold them.

NGU.

2. I haven't blocked anyone. Want an echo chamber? Fine, who am I to deny them?

3. I'll block only if I'm trolled or harrassed. And I'll try alert first
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 08:56 PM by LittleClarkie
So far I can't think of a time when I've felt so harrassed on this board that I'd wished I had a function like that.

And if I ever did, I would think that person would be banned pretty damn quickly, because his behavior would have to be beyond the pale for me to want to block him from coming anywhere near me.

9. I can think of a handful of posters.
All of them were eventually tombstoned, but while they were here, they made any kind of meaningful discussion impossible. It went way, way, way beyond simple disagreement.

I haven't seen anyone around recently that I would use that function on, (though I do have a handful on ignore).

10. I would hope that those who are really here to disrupt would be eventually removed
even with this new system. I'd hate to see them remain, blocked by most folks but still here stinking up the place.

4. I hope most DUers are more mature than that.
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 08:59 PM by BattyDem
But then again ... who knows? Those who will block another DUer because of a simple difference of opinion fall into the same category as those who feel the need to disrupt a positive thread about someone else's candidate. What's the point of doing that? If "John/Jane DUer" starts a thread that praises their favorite candidate and you happen to despise that candidate, simply avoid the thread and let that candidate's supporters have their own discussion!

5. I think it will lead to people being scared to disagree
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 08:59 PM by quinnox
in a thread, no matter the topic. Because if they disagree, then they might be blocked in future threads.

12. Disagreeing causes conflict. Conflict is bad.
It awakens the Block Monster.

7. You know, I hope that there is some level of basic unity come...
2008. Al Gore is my first choice. With that said, I will at least vote for the nominee so long as it is not Joe LIEberman. But at least we all can agree on that much. I can assure you, Hillary is a million times better than John McCain/Rudy G/Sam Brownback/Mitt (the grifter governor) Romney, or whoever else the GOP will put up.

8. I can understand the reason for the feature, but will never use it
I don't want to condemn anyone here or limit their input. I think they just have strong feelings on some subjects and I'm glad they do. It seems to me that the more informed you are on any subject, you are more likely to respond quickly and emotionally. That presents the problem of your statements being poorly thought out and open to mis-interpretation.

Others seem to post threads that have little or no consequence beyond having their voice heard, but that's one of the reasons DU is here. I think that's fine and respond when there is an opportunity to elevate the conversation.

I try and put a lot of thought into any thread or response I post (it helps that my keyboard skills are pretty poor). I may not say much, but I hope it has some meaning.
