record warm winter

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11148450/

"NEW YORK - Let’s put it this way: People played golf this winter in Maine. In shorts.

Buttercups have been blooming in Montana. In Ohio, an ice-free Lake Erie allowed an early start to seasonal ferry service. And the sap started running early in Vermont.

While January plunged much of Europe and Russia into the deep freeze, it appeared to be remarkably mild across the United States. Federal scientists haven’t calculated yet whether it ranks as the warmest January on record nationwide, but “it’s certainly going to be right up there,” said Michael Halpert, a meteorologist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center."

1. OMG! THIS IS HUGH!! GLOBaL WARMINg!!11!!!
:eyes:

Anomalies can happen; and weather patterns due to tsunami and earthquakes, et al, may be the reason.

But we sure as Iceland didn't have warm temperatures one year ago. It was +35 two weeks ago. One year before that it was +0 for a high.

Ergo, it is not "global warming" but other, more recent, earthy incidents causing the phenomena we are now experiencing.

Whatever. The earth could burst apart tomorrow and we'd all be the better for it.

5. You are half right...if that...
Abnormalities DO happen...the fact that this winter in New Hampshire is the warmest the entire 11 winters I've spent here means little. The fact that this is also warmer than the 40 years I spent 200 miles south of here and within 1 mile of the ocean (tempering effect) DOES disturb me.The disturbing reports from both the extreme north and south polar regions do disturb me.The fact that I have 7.5 grandchildren that will face this all of their lifetimes greatly disturb me and your cavalier attitude and denial of possible trends GREATLY disturb me...If you believe the earth could "burst apart tomorrow and we'd all be better for it."-If that is truly your belief I suggest you indeed get yourself off it...

7. Good thing you are not in charge of *anything*
Defeatism combined with emotional rationalizing is not helpful.

2. God IS on our side!?
It didn't help a lot yet with the heating bill here in SE Wisconsin.

But I have been putting in the windows on my construction since mid January and once I get busy I haven't needed a jacket, hat or gloves. Indeed, when I leave my stocking cap on I sweat.

I noticed today that the buds on the red willows are getting cooler, which means the sap is starting to run.

right now, I'm sitting here with my doors open. It's been like this for MOST of the season. This is scary shit. 40s-50s? In ILLINOIS in the winter??? Yikes! These are not the winters of my chilhood. We were guaranteed a blizzard and sub-zero temperatures. Not anymore.

6. I'm looking at the other side of this coin. A warm winter means
the Gulf of Mexico didn't cool down much which means it will be even warmer next year for all those hurricanes coming in.
