New documents back up claim local AWOL couple was lied to

ROCHESTER, NY -- A new chapter is unfolding in the saga of a local couple, who went AWOL from the Army more than two months ago and are now considered deserters and, in fact, fugitives.

It appears that the Army may now being investigating the person who signed them up as part of a possible recruiting scandal.

In previous stories, we told you about how they enlisted under the married couples program with the promise- they thought- that they'd always be stationed together, and never overseas.

Of how when that perceived promise was broken they staged an escape from a Missouri Army post which read like it was ripped from the pages of Shawshank Redemption.

Of how they claimed they were lied to from the start, first by their recruiter, and now, evidence which makes it appear that could be the case.

They were truckers by trade, so moved by their involvement in moving supplies in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, that they decided they could work for a greater good by enlisting in the Army.
