1. You can only recommend one post at a time.
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 04:30 PM by Rabrrrrrr
Or "please use a sentence when posting so we know what you are asking". You might also want to try some adult-level politeness, such as "please" or "thank you in advance" instead of just "eh?".

And welcome to DU! :hi:

4. Is English a foreign language to you?
I can hardly understand your point of view.

6. I'm not sure what you mean.
"disbarred for"?

I don't think you are in any fear of getting banning, if that's what you are wondering - missing verbs are not a cause for banning, so don't worry there.

3. could you clarify?
5 recommendations are needed to be on greatest page. Are you asking how many posts a poster has before a poster can recommend posts? Or how many posts are needed to recommend what? Bit too cryptic, please clarify.

7. I understood the question
Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 04:39 PM by dmallind
But buggered if I know the answer. I DO however see a link to recommend this thread, despite my modest post count. So the answer is "don't know but less posts than I have".

9. I was trying for the woodchuck rhyme. That is a secret.
the exact number is unknown by most of us. Try asking skinner directly, emailing him. The idea is to let new posters get their feet wet before giving them this important function. It helps them understand more of what the forum is about, as well as discouraging disruptors who do not manage to get past a few postings.

11. One other thing
It strikes me that possibly this may also be connected to donations. I don't post a lot but I've sent a couple hundred bucks DU's way over the last few drives - something trolls or right wing agitators are unlikely to do.

Can't say for sure of course, but I seem to remember having this function for quite a while.

17. Your call of course but
I read much more than I post

I see value in this resource, as it allows me an insight into news I might otherwise have missed, and a vast legion of people willing to research and share info I often find interesting and useful (not the "Bush is a dick" one line posts. They may be right, but of little value to me personally, as I already know this).

I am not charged for this resource.

It is not a free service to those who provide it. I cannot imagine the bandwidth on a site like this but cheap it surely is not.

Being a Blue Dog type and probably more of a fan of capitalism than many here, I see the problem with a good which is produced at significant cost and then given away. This is a public good (in both the economics and ethical sense, but the former being my point here).

Since I gain value from a public good, it is reasonable that I pay for some part of it. If NOBODY did it would soon collapse. If ALL of us did we'd each have to pay less. IF SOME of us do, it keeps going. Since the problem with public goods in economics is that many people prefer NOT to pay, the collapse option is the most likely if some attention is not paid to encouraging revenue.

I do not want the collapse option to occur, therefore I donate.

20. After yahoo crashed
I registered here

Yahoo was the greatest

Total free access after registration

I may register with the Freeper site, too.

But I would be more inclined to donate here.

If I donate to any site.

For me, it's all about paying into social security to repay those who payed into my parents
