3. Good, I like it in their face
Afterward we can compare what the GOP accomplished from the "contract" with what Pelosi accomplishes in 100 hours.

4. I'm cool with it...
I'm still not happy that they suspended business yesterday because of a freakin' football game.

If India and Pakistan were to start lobbing nuclear warheads at each other, the last thing I would be worrying about was if the Seahawks beat the point spread, y'know.

5. Speak for yourself, I'm a cowboys fan.
Well ok, if nukes started flying I might have tuned out, but hearing about how wonderful of a president Ford was could wait until after the game.

Edited on Tue Jan-09-07 05:08 PM by Pawel K
My mistake.

I did not hear what happened in congress because of the football game, anyone wanna fill me in?

I thought media stopped regular news and instead played reruns of specials because of the game.

13. Or how about a death clock; one column for Americans, the other for
Iraqis. That might get some attention, if it were done honestly, which would never happen.

10. CNN started increased kicking and punching
on the Democrats the day after the election. The 'day-off for football' was such non-issue nonsense but rediculous (and on all of the cables). Gee, Democrats are bad for being so hypocrital in breaking their campaign promise for a five day work week. :eyes: But, if Hoyer had said, "No way!", the news story of the day would have been "Democrats are bad for being so hypocrital in breaking their campaign promise to treat Republicans better than they were treated."

It's unlikely we'll be seeing stories from CNN about the success of the Democrats. It's more likely that CNN is going use the clock to ratchet up criticism of the Democrats.

12. They're Giving The Dems 100 Hrs To Undo What The Repugs Did ....
in the last 6 years. I like the concept that Pelosi put out there - the "First 100 Hours" - but it is being used against the Dems. We have to make sure that it doesn't paint the Dems into a corner. We need to keep ramming back the idea that the Repugs had 6 years to get things right and even if it takes more time than '100 Hours' that this is better than the previous Repug controlled 'do nothing' or worse yet 'undo everything' congress before.

16. Perhaps it is there because of what the Democrats said they would do
in the first 100 hours. Ever have a deadline at your job? Is a deadline evil or a conspiracy against you? This does not mean that the Democrats have to undo everything the Republicans have done in 6 years in 100 hours. Sometimes it is a good thing to have your feet held to the fire. No matter what the intentions may be, this deadline (or countdown clock) is a good thing because it will indicate that the Democrats will keep their word or at least make a strong and honest attempt at it.

18. Good.
I'm eager to see how much they come through with. For years we've been demanding media accountability for our leaders' statements and promises. And frankly, I expect this bunch of dems to be telling the truth and keeping to their word - I'm watching 'em like a hawk, too, CNN's making it a little easier with a handy timer.

22. So? We Should Be Encouraging It In My Opinion.
We touted the 100 hours and made it quite public. It only stands to reason that we would now be expected to follow through on our promise.

I am proud of the Dems and their 100 hour agenda, and I see no reason to be anything but excited at our ability to enact it. Having a countdown clock just gives us something to accomplish and then tout afterwards our victory in coming through.

I have no reason to believe the Dems will not come through or that in the end we will not be quite proud of them. I also see no reason for some of the defeatism in this thread that right out of the gates already puts forth some doom and gloom tone as if we are completely going to fail in the agenda or something, and the countdown clock is a way to cement that failure. Why start off with such a negative attitude? Why portray an atmosphere of failure when we are just getting started? That is what I have goin through my head.

I say we will come through and I am damn proud of my Dems for their agenda. The countdown clock will only be a fun motivator to get things done and afterwards confirmation of our aggressively productive agenda.

23. I can't see why this is bad.
We're the ones who've got to hold the Dems in Congress accountable. They have to listen to us, so if they get out of line, we need to make sure we point it out. They cannot get away with the corruption of the last Congress.

25. Pelosi laid out a 100-hour agenda.
Now it's her job to live up to her promises. Was the 100-hour promise for real, or was it just more of the usual rhetoric we hear from politicians of both parties?

1st 100 hours when they took over control of Congress.

That would only be fair.
