Put the two together and you just might get the reason for each.

We will be there militarily for years to secure the massive oil profits of western oil companies like Exxon, Shell, etc.

Western oil companies will get massive profits (ie. 75% of all Iraqi oil sales for the next 30 years) because we will be there for years to ensure the contracts are pushed through the Iraqi govt and enforced to the 'T.'

Kinda cynical, and one dimensional, but each feeds off the other.
