The people of earth have come to a crossroads
The people of the earth have spent the entirety of our existence preparing to fight or fighting wars. The planet has only really known hostility and hatred but it is time this planet must come together or this planet is lost. The war we now must fight is against ourselves. We have arrived at the crossroads, will we continue down the road we are on, one of complete disregard for our fellow man and vast riches to whoever can amass them or will we change directions. Where capitalism is king and private property is the rule selfishness and pride will keep us from doing the things necessary to prolong any life on this earth.

The news these days about the environment is very worrisome, if we don’t change our think, acting and living we will surely perish in a cruel way. The poor will starve as the rich eat the last sushi. This planet is on the brink of moving into a condition that makes life as we know it impossible. The changes we will need to make to preserve what we have made has long since past. The changes we need to make now are ones that will be to preserve some part of the civilization we have created. If we go down the road we are on to the end, we will find a dead end. Mankind must set aside its petty differences and get to the task of survival. It will take all the nations of the world to halt this march to the end.

The political climate of the world and the foolish exploits of world leaders will not lead to a future but a complete break down of everything we know and hold dear. While world leaders jockey for control of the last drops of oil the planet continues to use the gasses we expel to do what chemistry and physics say it should. Without knowing it we have brought this planet to the very brink of life survival. We must work together to stop the march.

It will take a planetary mind shift in the way we live. It will take all the people of Earth working together to first understand the science and second to implement the solutions. We know enough now to start making the first moves to mitigate mans impact. For example we know burning fossil fuels must stop and alternatives must be brought on line as quickly as possible. We can not wait for a capitalistic, market driven solution to develop, it just won’t happen and if it could it would not be in time. It will take a political solution with all the world involved to turn things around.

We will need fundamental shifts in our thinking and dramatic changes in our ways of life. The climate of business in this county is such that head in the sand ignorance will continue until any possible mitigation is impossible. Not only have they given us a business model that cares nothing for the planet let alone the workers and customers but they have given us an economic philosophy that has left us bankrupt with no reserves with which to make the investments needed to begin the huge job we are confronted with. The business community must become our partners that turns its full attention to creating what we need to solve the problems known and yet unknown to come. We did it before in WWII, all resources were available to be used and sacrifice was made by all.

I can not completely see all the moves that need to be made and science must continue its work to find out what exactly is happening and come up with solutions we can implement. I do see that it will take some major shifts in our approach to life. We may need to rethink how we raise and move our food, how we raise and move our kids, how we heat and cool our houses, where and how we live. Many life changing chooses need to be discussed and made. The time to begin is long past and the window for a future is closing fast. All the people of the world will be needed to save us and personal sacrifices will need to be made. The world must be educated and world cooperation must be developed. We do not have time for one more surge in Iraq or corporatism that denies the effects of “Doing Business”, we don’t have time for personal power games. Life is in the balance.

It is time for the most well off among us to step up and take the lead. For corporate leaders and businessmen to do their duty to this country and make and encourage environmentally safe products and technologies, design ways of living that support life and health, take the responsibility and lead us in a positive direction. To those that much is given, much is expected as the saying goes. There was a time when it was expected that philanthropy was a responsibility of those that have done financially well. It is time once again to put person profit and gain aside and do those things that must be done. Changes need to be made for the children and grand children to come. Please help.

2. Man is incapable of saving himself from his own demise...........
because man always believes he can find a way around everything and will put off making sacrifices and drastic lifestyle changes to avert his ultimate extinction.

3. Capitalism will certainly be unable to avert our extinction.
The solution lies only in our collective governments being able to stop fighting and to cooperate and invest in a solution.

13. Capitalism itself isn't the problem. Corporatism is.
Capitalism could be used as effectively as any other system towards good. Any system can be abused by assholes if you allow them to take over. Corporatism, however, always puts profits before everything else, and that is a problem that cannot be resolved without completely changing the nature of the corporation.

15. I think this is just semantics here
IMO, Unrestrained Capitalism == Corporatism

Properly restrained and guided capitalism is just the ticket, however.

16. I think it's an important distinction. Capitalism doesn't need to be unregulated...
...and unregulated capitalism isn't the only brand. Too often people want to throw out the baby with the bath water.

5. Nature has a way, sometimes unpleasant, of making corrections.
Or, responding to such annoyances as overpopulation of one species.

6. I fear it is too late
The climatic changes that have been set in motion cannot be stopped. If all of mankind had started when Jimmy Carter was president, we might have averted it, but even then it may have been too late. Global warming seems to have started as far back as the forties.

The earth is on its way to turning into Venus. Even if things don't change to that extent, civilization as we know it, etc, etc.

I'm not saying we shouldn't try to mobilize an all out effort to try to save ourselves and our children. After all what other choice do we have? But at this point I think it's probably futile and I don't see the world's leaders or its peoples being committed to an all out effort anytime soon.

10. Nature spells the way, hints at it, but we refuse to listen/think. We seem to KNOW BETTER
but we don't...

We are gripped with Negativity.....the results of all Human activity showes we are an ignorant species too smart for its own good.

We can change as you mentioned but the odds favor the status quo and eventual oblivion. Bush is a prime example of how screwed up we are....

Come, we go drink while we can....

11. We ARE nature.
We are part of the planet. Not separate. It does not take a scientist. It will not be solved by technology (as contrary as that sounds to so many).

It only takes eyes. Eyes that for some reason until now have been blind. Blinded by comfort. But now the uncomfortable truth is too bright to not notice. The subdivisions. The endless streaming of cars, everywhere.

The answer is in one word- less.
