Whose shadow?
http://daily-journal.com/archives/dj/display.php?id=385874

They are the shadows on our streets; invisible people living at the edges of society who survive day to day without a home and with little to eat.

Homelessness is part of our lives, regardless of where you live, said Greg Harris of Catholic Charities.

"Homelessness touches every community in our region," agreed Robin Savage, executive director of Harbor House. "Kankakee has its homeless, but so does Bourbonnais, Manteno, Momence, Grant Park and Herscher -- all of Kankakee County."

If it happens here, can it happen to us? Just how far is the average family from becoming one of those shadows on the streets? snip

On a dark and cold January night just last year, 94 people were found homeless in Kankakee. Half were families with children. Children accounted for nearly a third of those in the survey that was conducted by members of the Housing Continuum of Kankakee County.

This is my county. My city of 1,500 people is in bold.
