"We don't keep records on hogs,"
Another Hogzilla caught near Atlanta

Fri Jan 5, 9:28 PM ET
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070106/ap_on_re_us/hogzilla_killed

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. - A giant wild hog boasted to be bigger than the near-mythical "Hogzilla" caught in southern Georgia a few years ago has been killed in a suburban Atlanta neighborhood.

The hog hung snout down from a tree Friday in William Coursey's front yard, not far from where the avid hunter said he shot the beast. He said he hauled it to a truck weight station, which recorded the hairy hog at 1,100 pounds.

The Department of Natural Resources did not know whether the hog was a record for the state. "We don't keep records on hogs," said Melissa Cummings of the DNR's public affairs department.

But Coursey believes his behemoth surpasses the famed super swine shot and killed in 2004 that weighed in at half a ton on the farm's scales. A team of
National Geographic experts later confirmed "Hogzilla" didn't quite live up to the 1,000-pound, 12-foot hype, saying the beast was probably 7 1/2 to 8 feet long, and weighed about 800 pounds.

16. Boar "Taint"...
I am not kidding about that word. If you haven't smelled boar meat cooking you haven't lived. Smells like simmering jockstraps.

23. Your correct, the first Hogzilla wasn't eaten either
I would like to see the tusks

In Georgia, they call it Hogzilla: a 12-foot-long wild hog recently killed on a plantation and now quickly becoming a part of local legend.

The plantation's owner claims the hog weighed 1,000 pounds and had 9-inch tusks. But few people have actually seen the hog -- the only proof being a photo that shows the dead beast hanging from a rope.

Whether the hog ever actually existed or is some sort of myth, it has definitely been the topic of conversation in small towns across southern Georgia.

"People just back up and ask 'Is it real?' They can't believe that there's a hog that big in the woods," said Drew White, who has a copy of the photo on display at an auto parts store in Tifton, about 17 miles away.

Chris Griffin killed the beast in June, 2003 at the River Oak Plantation, where he is a hunting guide and has been showing off the picture around this small farming community ever since. The hog is nearly twice as long as the 6-foot-tall Griffin, who is seen standing next to it in the photo.

"They say 'Man, you look like a dwarf compared to that thing,'" he said.

The picture is all Griffin had to back up his claims. He and Ken Holyoak, owner of the plantation, buried the beast on the property and did not want to hassle with slaughtering it since the meat of large feral hogs is typically not very good.

Holyoak said he decided that the hog's head also wasn't worth keeping because it was too large to mount on a wall. He said the head has the diameter of a tire on a compact car.

"We had to lift him with a backhoe," he said.

7. Scientists think there are about 500,000 wild hogs in Florida
Biologists say the wild-hog population has been exploding throughout the United States.

When is open season on wild hogs? A: All 365 days of the year in Texas. (and in most states)

Tennessee Wild hogs: Coming soon to a backyard near you. Two years ago near Oliver Springs a wild boar slashed two dogs, killing one, and threatened some people before it was dispatched with a hunting rifle.

Feral hogs have been documented in 30 states; experts give them 10 more years to be in all 50 states.

===Yes, yes!! That's also why we have arial wolf hunts in alaska; because they kill too many carribou.

No problem. we slaughter the wolves, and then there will be "too many carribou" and, of course, then it will be our solemn duty to cull the reindeer herds too!!

Hey, got another idea: We could stop the open season on coyotes inTennesse, Tex-ass, and Georgia where this hog was killed, and watch the coyotes reduce the hog population.

Naaa, bad idea-its more fun to shoot the hogs with a bow and arrow and watch them bleed to death over the space of thirty minutes. Not to mention the photo-ops for the boys. Then they will respect me: I'm a man by God; I'm a man in full: my balls hang down like a Jersey bull! Yaaahooo!

Im off to the Travis Tritt concert...later!

PPS: most dogs "slashed" by these "ferocious" feral hogs are Pit Bulls used by "hunters" to latch onto the hog and immobilize it so the hunter can aim his bow-and not miss-there's nothing more elusive than a speeding hog, without a pit bull latched onto its hind leg ==

10. Here is a pix of a freeper hunter and his kill....

The freeper's estimated weight was 780 pounds. The identity of the freeper hunter (also pictured) who bagged him was undisclosed.

17. That's no hunter.
That's a man with a gun that has shot and killed an animal.

Big difference.

12. That hog weighs more than my horses.
They weigh in at 950 and 1000 lbs, respectively.

I'd rather not meet a hog that size out on the trail.
