Weird coincidence
Saddam is executed on December 30th 2006. Violence remains the same against US forces for 48 hours after (December 30 and 31) then drops dramatically.

I'm sure its just a statistical blip but weird........

3. In Iraq
a week span where 2 americans die is unheard of. The violence level there is far higher. I'm not saying it is the start of a change, that aint gonna happen, just saying it is strange, we execute hussein and for one week violence against US forces drops......

13. Actually no
I didn't I said violence remained the same for 48 hours after his execution. 3 dead per day is roughly the average.

16. In your post #3 which I am replying to you wrote:...
"In Iraq a week span where 2 americans die is unheard of." I did misread the OP about US and corrected elsewhere, but this response of these 6 makes the total for the week 8. 12/30-1/4 is 6 days, and less than a week.

OK, none officially killed last 2 days, so one could say only 8 in a week which is below the total average. I'd call it a blip, wait and see since on some days none die, some days many.

4. My point
Edited on Sat Jan-06-07 06:02 PM by sanskritwarrior
was that we are perceived to have executed Saddam, the US. The US military is not being attacked as much. I said nothing about the Iraqis and the sectarian violence. Sorry I brought it up.

10. Thanks to that cellphone footage, everyone knows better--everyone.
It wasn't US soldiers bellowing Muqtada, Muqtada, Muqtada while they placed the noose around SH's neck. The Shi'as are overjoyed that their team did the deed, and the Sunnis are bullshit and hellbent for revenge against them.

5. Well, they killed SH right before Sunni Eid which was followed by Shi'a Eid
That could have influenced the downspike by taking a few diehards off the street. After all, you have to go see the family and do a little celebrating...

12. And it is a Holy Day, sort of like when Christmas used to have a religious component
It celebrates the end of Ramadan, it focuses on things like counting blessings, charitable works, gifts to family, kindnesses to strangers...that kind of thing. It's a real "peace, love, understanding" kind of holiday. There are variances in the style of celebrations throughout the muslim world, but the essence of the holiday is pretty much the same.

18. You got me wondering here, so am checking last few Jan's.
early Jan deaths
2006 1st-2, 5th-11 = 13
2005 1st-2, 3rd-1, 4th-6, 6th-9 = 18
2004 1st-2, 2nd-5, 5th-1 = 8

Interesting looking at the same few days on the calendar. I don't think projecting from any 1 week is worthwhile, but interesting. RIP all you people.

Saddam with the violence (and "terrorism") and thus his death ending the "insurgency" in Iraq.
