January 6, 2007 -- One day after taking control of Congress, the Democrats yesterday declared war on President Bush - as they threatened to block any move to send more U.S. troops to Iraq.

"Adding more combat troops will only endanger more Americans and stretch our military to the breaking point for no strategic gain," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wrote Bush, even as the president prepared to announce exactly that in a speech to the nation next week.

The Democrats vowed to flex their new majority muscle in the House and Senate to force Bush to seek approval before deploying any further forces.MORE
