5. I don't like it either...
but at least he's caucusing with the Dems. 51-49 is an awfully slim margin. So ultimately IMHO it is a small price to pay even if it stinks to high heaven.

:-(

But we have a majority!

:)

9. It is also a great 'payoff' for Rove and his election help...
Joe's game of "I am the bipartisan senator" generally means = I won't challenge bushco. So while serious investigations will get underway in a myriad of committees and subcommittees... except very superficial work from his - so he can keep fostering an image of "playing nice".

6. 110th Committee Assignments are still being finalized.
But you *might* be able to get an idea from the 109th:
http://hsgac.senate.gov/index.cfm?Fuseaction=About.Membership

Obviously, Chafee is gone and the Dems now have more seats, some which likely go to freshmen Senators. So it probably won't change too much because it is a somewhat plum picking and members want to build seniority.

8. If you counted his earlier years in office to his current term, Lautenburg
should have been considered. Would far prefer Lautenburg to Lieberman as Chair of HLS.

Granted I am sure this was thrown to Joe in order to try to get him to be more likely to vote with dems (and keep the maj) than with the repubs. Bah!

10. Lieberman and his position are problematic.

In the spirit of the constitution, our security measures should be brought under it's legal umbrella anyway.

16. There's something just as significant in the House as the first woman Speaker.
4 African-American Chairs:

Ways & Means - Rep. Charles Rangel (NY)
Judiciary - Rep. John Conyers (MI)
Homeland Security - Rep. Bennie Thompson (MS
Ethics - Rep. Stephanie Tubb Jones (OH)

Which has to be a record...and they are some mighty powerful committees at that.

22. There have been some name changes to the above in the House.
Education and Workforce is now Education and Labor.
International Relations is now Foreign Affairs.
Science is now Science and Technology.
Government Reform is now Oversight and Government Reform.

When I made list up, I hadn't caught the changes.
