Historical question. Any occasion of an ex-empire being subjugated by a foreign power?
Edited on Sat Jan-06-07 01:38 AM by Capn Amerika
When I say "empire" I mean true power house and I mean really taken over and stomped on. I know the Maya, the Inca and the Aztec. There is France being rolled over by the Germans in WWI and WWII. But France still maintains. Just wondering what the U.S. will look like in 100 years or so. Fending ourselves off from China and India?

3. Alexander the Great kicked the crap outta Persia and moved east
History is full of such tales. Hannibal, the Huns, the Visigoths, the Mongol Hoard, the Brady Bunch.

We are becoming a Third World Country, and it is our own 'leaders' doing it to us at the behest of their Corporate Lords.

There are no nations, only vestiges of them for show. The Company is the new empire.

5. Then the Romans went after the Greeks and Egypt...
The Kingdom of Israel had its day in the sun, then others got a piece of them and took them down. History is filled with examples like this, so Capn Amerika shouldn't have any trouble with his homework. ;)

7. Why do you think not bombs? We bombed Iraq for oil. China is our
main rival for resources now and in the future.

Mutually assured destruction comes to mind

And there are way too many ways to skin a cat. Mind you the cat will not like any of them.

6. The Ottoman empire? Austro-Hungarian?
I don't think we have to fear India; we share an Anglo heritage of sorts. China? Yes, we're in big trouble there.

11. here's a thought: how did being an empire help the average Brit, Spaniard, or Frenchman?
The French Revolution happened while France was pretty much at her imperial peak.

At the turn of the 20th century, British workers still lived little better than slaves.

So what exactly are we worried about?

14. In 100 years, American economic hegemony will be smashed.
Edited on Sat Jan-06-07 05:22 AM by Selatius
A victim of its own greed and largesse. Power in the world will once again shift. Instead of a world dominated by one superpower in either military or economic sense, the world will once again enter a multipolar world where multiple powers exist. China is one. India is another. Watch for Brazil and see how they fare in the 21st century. Keep an eye out for the EU, too. They may end up being in good shape if they play their cards right and avoid US stupidity.

If there is only one country that rises while the US falls, that country will be China. After centuries of humiliation and domination by European colonial powers, it could be said that China is due.
