Faculty at SMU (Dallas) rejecting the Bush library
This excerpt kind of says it all I think. Kudos to SMU.
"Another matter that warrants our attention is that whether it aims to or not SMU will, in the long run, financially profit on the backs of hard-working Americans who feel squashed by policies they've now rejected at the polls. Surely it's not the case that SMU will allow itself to benefit financially from a name and legacy that globally is associated with suffering, death, and political 'bad faith.' Taken together, all these issues set decision-making about the Library in a framework of inescapable ethical questions, and remind us of a key imperative adopted by many leading universities around the globe: 'to be critic and conscience of society.'"

2. I love one of the comments on the blog:
"Seems like a presidential library for George W Bush shouldn't cost 500 million dollars for a bathroom stall and a copy of "The Pet Goat".
Fess up...which DU'er wrote that??

20. Perhaps Bob Jones University?
Bush has certainly pandered to them enough.

I'm glad to hear that Southern Methodist University retains a semblance of concern for ethical and intellectual freedom.

12. Kinda makes me ashamed to be an SMU alumnus...
Does your post mean that SMU's gonna get the library whether the faculty want it or not? I've already canceled my regular contribution to SMU--I wish it were big enough to hurt them, but it's not.

18. The AP has articles on the Bush Library
The faculty already submitted their dissent and it has fallen on deaf ears. On Dec. 21, SMU President giddily announced that SMU is the top candidate. It doesn't sound like they are listening to the faculty.

I'm sorry your alma mater is making such poor choices. Mine has, too. Pepperdine actually hired Ken Starr to be the Dean of the Law School. It's true.

Peace

19. If you could get a hold of the alumni list and urge them all to stop contributions
if this "library" is built I bet they'd stop their plans it quicker than a New York second.

This library has had me in a thither since I heard about it. I loathe the idea that he would gather 500 million to save his name rather than funnel it toward the New Orleans construction. That is where the ass hat's collection should go.

11. Lol... maybe MCC?
A friend and I were talking about the issue of what place would want the Bush43 library after some college turned it down.

I said maybe some place in or near Lubbock, and my friend said maybe Midland Community College. I was practically ROFL over that.

One of the first cultural casualties of the Bush bullshit war. Korans which had survived Genghis Khan succumbed to the Sociopath in Chief.

16. Good for you, SMU!!
:yourock:

Maybe His AWOLness will try Liberty University next........... after all, the library won't take up much room, and no separate children's section is necessary (it'll all be the children's section).

21. I wouldn't want to be anywhere NEAR Bush in the future
he reminds me of that one unlucky guy in the old movie ROBOCOP, where they are demonstrating the Street Sweeper, a Robotic Law Enforcement Robot with HUGE GUNS, that demands you drop your weapon and then counts down from 10.

In the demonstration they had the unlucky guy a gun and tell him to aim it at the Robot. The Robot tells him to drop the weapon so he DOES, but there's a malfunction and the countdown to death begins.

Meanwhile EVERYONE ELSE in the room is PUSHING THIS soon to be dead man AWAY FROM THEM so THEY won't be a TARGET :)

Think about it, Bush has personally pissed OFF a BILLION Muslims. Paraguay is about his only option.

Meanwhile, like I said, I don't want to be ANYWHERE NEAR that GUY.

Hell, even the CIA is moving their headquarters OUT of the Blast Zone which they seem to intimate is the White House and it's perimeter, or Congress.. scary times we live in, all brought to you by the Bush Family, Nazis with Money, YOUR MONEY.

23. The Bush "library" should be a toilet stall at a rest area on an interstate
highway. A few outdated issues of Mad Magazine ought to do it.
