Hats Off To An Invaluable DUer
Don't know if this violates protocol in any way but I must draw attention to an individual who I have never responded to but have read most of what this person puts up on this site. The username of this person is hatrack and as far as I can tell he/she sticks primarily, nearly exclusively, to the Energy/Environment forum a place we all should visit more frequently.

Within that forum we can find very harrowing but necessary voices/reports on the conditions which confront us all but we can also find information that can lead to solutions as we confront the various dilemmas in our time of global ecological crises.

In that spirit and out in front hatrack deserves a :toast: and salut'

Thank you whoever you are.

Check it out.

Heh sorry for the annoying all caps-but thats how much I appreciate hatrack's posts.

I had considered creating a thread saluting Hatrack (and actually you Crowley and a few others), but then didn't because I am lazy. Trust you to beat me to it :)!

18. Well here is something I thought about today
Forgive me if it sounds a bit muddled.

So I was asking an individual/acquaintance for a favor for two very close friends. Very small stuff. And to get this individual to grant the favor I had to delicately walk around a few details. The person who had the power to grant or deny the gift has in a local way "The Power" and the person who wanted what this other could grant is really a "Nobody." I was serving as the conduit. The two friends are local farmers and heirloom seed savers.

What I really wanted to say was, "Look Barry (real name) if your children survive this next century during the rapacious globalized economy it will be due to the likes of Joe, Amy and others like them, so you should damn well consider it an honor to help them." Well of course the conversation went differently and the gift was given.

Somehow it occurred that the fact that so many everyday individuals who go largely unnoticed are really there in these times of great duress and uncertainty. Grounded.

And so as I tuned in to the E/E forum tonight there the critter was as always just posted for those who would listen.

26. Just started gardening myself about three years ago.
I look for organic plants, and seeds that I sometimes can find. I too worry about the likes of Monsanto, and the ability to take the ability away from the plant to reseed. Very important.

29. What?!? When?!? Where?!?
Who is hatrack? You've got to introduce us. So far, I don't think I've met him. I'm a fan of his. I guess I'm not going to enough meetups. Either that, or I've been too incapaciated on the ones I've been to and don't remember him. Was he at the Rapture meet-up? 'Cuz I definitely don't remember a lot from that night after I started the drinking contest with evlbstrd (who apparently didn't know we were in a drinking contest :eyes: ).

On a side note: We finally got the driver's window fixed. It now rolls up all the way. I can travel in cold weather again. :woohoo:

38. He did it that first night
He had poor evl backed into a corner ranting about the virtues of Kelly Ripa. He only does that when he's in KC, particularly on the Missouri side. I don't know. It's just weird.

Btw, got my formal for the Gov's Ball on Monday. I also got my shoes, an evening bag and another dress all for under $100 at a consignment shop. Slap some make-up on me, drag a brush through my hair and I'm good to go.

Of the environmental forum and has been for as long as I can remember.

I have learned so much from hatrack's posts, and it doesn't stop there. I use the environmental forum as a starting point for students to investigate topics for further research. Who knows what a hatrack post might start? A speech, a paper...
