Chirac on Bushco's War: A Scathing I Told you so
http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/01/05/news/france.php

<snip>
PARIS: In a scathing attack on the American-led war in Iraq, President Jacques Chirac of France said Friday that his predictions that the war would spread chaos and more terrorism had come true.

"As France had foreseen and feared, the war in Iraq has sparked upheavals that have yet to show their full effects," Chirac said in his New Year's address at the Élysée Palace to the foreign diplomatic corps.

"This adventure has worsened the divisions among communities and threatened the very integrity of Iraq," he said. "It has undermined the stability of the entire region, where every country now fears for its security and its independence. It has offered terrorism a new field for expansion."

As President George W. Bush prepares to unveil a new military strategy in Iraq, Chirac added, "the priority, more than ever, is to restore full sovereignty to the Iraqi people."

The single paragraph on Iraq in a speech that addressed many crises and problems around the world was one of Chirac's most pointed justifications for France's decision to oppose the American-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

1. While he can be proud that he helped save French lives by opposing this war,
I'm sure there is very little satisfaction in this "I told you so," knowing that so many have needlessly died.

3. Don't even get me started on that freakin' fiasco.
Good use of time, huh? "Hey, let's take a vote to change the name 'French Fries' to 'Freedom Fries.'"

Idiots.

4. My supervisor is a French citizen who has always been proud and happy to live here.
It was embarrassing for all of us to hear some of the crap that came out when France opposed the war. Even last summer, some students at the community college where we work made comments in front of her (not realizing where she is from) about how they were rooting against France in the World Cup because the French opposed the war. It just goes to show there are idiots everywhere.

However, once I mentioned to them that my supervisor is French, they were suitably embarrassed. It also goes to show that it's easy to throw insults at people who are thought to be far away.

7. And don't forget Bill O'Reilly's boycott.
FOX's O'Reilly fabricated evidence of success of purported boycott

Host Bill O'Reilly threatened Canada with a boycott like the one he advocated against France, then cited a phony statistic about the success of the French boycott. The threat came during O'Reilly's April 27 debate with Toronto Globe and Mail columnist Heather Mallick about Canada's harboring of two deserters from the U.S. military who have fled to Canada. From FOX News Channel's The O'Reilly Factor:

O'REILLY: Now if the government -- if your government harbors these two deserter , doesn't send them back ... there will be a boycott of your country which will hurt your country enormously. France is now feeling that sting.

8. "little satisfaction", but real, nevertheless, to have been so comprehensively vindicated
in such a tragic matter, in the teeth of savage vilification by you-know-who.

13. Baghdad Bush...
Bush is almost the only person left on the planet who still claims that "VICTORY IN IRAQ" is a sure thing.

He lied to start the war and he lies to keep it going.

Meanwhile the troops and the taxpayers pay for all of Bush's sins.
