1. If good people refuse to fight, there will be no need for war.

5. Actually...
I think it was "Politics by other means" unless you were giving it a 21st century twist!

"War is the continuation of policy (politics) by other means."

6. Being against war doesn't necessarily mean being a pacifist.
Just thought I'd point that out.

9. Well that is true...
I mean I suppose everyone would say they are against war (except the White House) crowd, it's just at what point do you accept it as a necessity. Pacifists generally do not believe war is justified under any circumstances. The Quakers in the 19th century, were excused on these grounds from serving in the military, even though most Quakers were anti-slavery. Gandhi did not support action in WWII.

7. Defense of our Borders
If an ally is attacked without provocation, that's one thing, but if an ally starts it, then that's something a little different.

8.  "War is a racket." Never so obviously so as in Iraq.
"War is a racket. It always has been. It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious." General Smedly Butler - USMC

10. i was going to go with defending ourselves only but
then thought of wwii. if we do not help our allies who are attacked, then we cannot expect any help in return. imo, we stalled too long in wwii. millions of people might have been saved if we had gone into the european theatre earlier. that said, i mean direct attack by another country on us or our allies, not vague terra-ist attacks by individuals.

11. Situational
I will quote one of my favorite progressive bands: Spearhead
"a piece a piece for you,
and a piece a piece for me,
a piece a piece for every peaceful person that you see.
A piece a piece for you
and a piece a piece for me,
but I won't act peaceful if you are not that way to me"

That sums it up for me. War and violence may be necessary in a world where there are sick and dangerous leaders and people. It is not my first choice of action and in fact it is my last choice of action, but at times it may be necessary (as much as some of you may not like it).

To reduce it to a more simpler example. I, personally, will live in peace with as many people as I know, but if you attempt to threaten, hurt or kill me or my family/friends, I am going to rip your throat out.

one must always be exceedingly reserved when it comes to use of any kind of force -- and it is best used judiciously and surgically.
