Pro impeachment guys: tomorrow we're doing an action on the beach.
Edited on Sat Jan-06-07 01:08 PM by flamingyouth
Here, a block away from where I live, one organizer set out to gather 1200 people together to spell out "IMPEACH" with our bodies and to have that filmed and photographed tomorrow. He started out with a handful of people and he's now about to reach his goal. Go, Brad, and thank you.

Before you roll your eyes, I just want to point out that this is how we got to this point in holding Junior accountable, to where our new Madam Speaker has to tell Mr. Conyers to please hold off on impeachment. Nancy had to do that because you and your friends and your network did something. You sent an email or called a friend or just went out there yourself. She knows that and imho, she asked Mr. Conyers to hold off while she does what she does best, gather info and think it through.

And while I'd never pretend to know better than my Congresswoman on how she should steer the House, and while I trust her implicitly to continue to do the outstanding work she has always done, I feel that as a citizen, a voter and a long time supporter, she needs to hear us weigh in when she's trying to figure out where her people are so she can lead them.

Tomorrow's action will not impeach the criminal now occupying the White House; it will give much needed support to our congressional reps who'd like to speak out but at the same time, need to mind their constituents as well as the prevailing wind inside the Beltway. Let's give them a point of reference.

Additionally, it helps gather and train activists. To get this one done and also, for the next time, for the next thing we really need done. Who can ever get enough training?

The very first demonstration I went to (as an 11 year old kid) was on this beach. We were protesting the continuing slaughter in Viet Nam on the occasion of Richard M. Nixon's second inaugural. There were hundreds of protesters on the beach and army copters overhead. That was scary.

This time, the copter will be ours.

If you know anyone that can be here in San Francisco, on Ocean Beach, tomorrow at 10:30 a.m., please forward this OP. The contact site for this action is here:

http://volunteerforchange.org/event/details/704

peace,
Beth

It's such an honor to be a part of this group. To brush shoulders with those who are so concerned about their country, and are doing something about it.

I think you described the situation perfectly. Forward we march. Toward the equilibrium that the Constitution created.

17. I'm just back from Chris Daly's inauguration party and Medea Benjamin
was there. She's on her way to Gitmo.

And there were all kind of citizens out tonight congratulating and thanking Chris.

His intern let me leave my flyers on their table. ;)

My son got to meet her or at least, listen to her a little in the City Hall hallway.

We are a movement, people, the world is tiny and everything we do counts.

21. We rarely find out the true impact of our social change actions
It's a treat when we do, but generally we don't know who will be inspired, illuminated, activated by the actions we take.

Assume we have more power than we know.

Brilliant, let's all get a copy online and send it to all the media folks we can, maybe Olberman would show it on his show..

Make sure there are plenty of cameras, someone make a film short and post that at YouTube, we all want to share this moment.

26. Be Sure to Get Something onto YouTube ASAP
And post the YouTube link here so we can spam it around and recommend it at the YouTube site.

If possible, get a "video/film pro" to do a "sixty second spot" of the message/event. Not a "documentary" but rather something with impact.

It's the best way to leverage your great efforts.

it isn't very often that I get to be with 1200+ people who are all on the same page, lol.

Here are a few pix while we wait.

You haven't lived until you are lying prone on the beach with a bunch of strangers, nice strangers, and being buzzed by a helicopter. :silly:

There was also a military plane up there the whole time. I guess they wanted to make sure we didn't try anything funny.

45. That you, mod mom. It was so heartening.
I felt a little worried because there seemed to be a gap in the 25-35 age range but that could just be my impression and not true.

There's really nothing like standing up (or, lol, lying down) with your neighbors to straighten your spine.

57. Wish we were in that age group.
I do agree that there is a gap though. Having marched in both peace and voting rights marches, with the exception of the folks in the League of Pissed-Off Voters, I have found that those around me were my age or older. Also when petitioning at large events I have found young people (college age to ~35) apathetic to what is going down and why it effects them.

and it got some interest from the dog owners there, but we kept thinking that we needed more people to do things like that on a bigger scale. Must have been great being in that crowd this morning!
