MSNBC: Oil Tanker Runs Aground in Alaska, Hit By Melted Ice Shelf
No link yet that's why I posted it here but it was just reported on MSNBC that an oil tanker was pushed aground by a huge mass of ice breaking away (global warming) and I don't know if oil has spilled or how big of a catastrophe yet.

1. Well it's a good thing all those companies are posting record
profits in the double-digit billions - so they can all pay for the cleanup in cash.

3. Another Valdez again ????!?!?!?
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 12:57 PM by stop the bleeding
I know that the Valdez didn't hit a piece of ice, but Alaska has barely even recovered from the last oil spill.

Fully Loaded Tanker Runs Aground in Alaska
Thursday, February 02, 2006

NIKISKI, Alaska — A fully-loaded tanker broke free of the dock in Nikiski and ran aground, the U.S. Coast Guard said Thursday.

The 575-foot Seabulk Pride was moored in Nikiski on the Kenai Peninsula overnight when it broke free of the dock, said Petty Officer Steve Harrison with the Coast Guard's command center in Juneau.

Harrison said the Coast Guard received the report at about 6 a.m. It was not immediately known how long the tanker drifted before running aground. Tugs were on the way to the scene to rescue the ship, he said.

The Seabulk normally carries crude and was fully loaded at the time. It was not immediately known what the tanker was loaded with when it ran aground, Harrison said.

One minute you're snoozing at the helm, then BAM! an iceberg out of nowhere.

10. One the one hand: Great Karma! On the other: Icebergs are always "melted..
... ice shelves" (or calved off of a melting ice shelf).
