Hearing Mr. Speaker addressed to Barney Frank
I watched a little CSPAN today and Barney Frank was running the House for part of the debate on the ethics reform bill. I would love to see that title be real for him, but sadly that won't be so. But he is the most powerful openly gay politician in the history of the US (except for the month or two McGreevey was governor after he came out). What an amazing day for marginalized people in this country. Women chairing the Rules Committee and as Speaker of the House, African Americans chairing Judiciary and Ways and Means, and a gay man in charge of Financial Services.

For many of us Congress will at long last begin to look like us. I am so proud of our party. Today was a historic day, of that there is no doubt. I can't wait to see what historic days lie ahead. The first African American Speaker, the first gay Speaker, the first Hispanic Speaker, I just can't wait.

1. My thoughts exactly.
It was great to look at the faces and see it more closely represent our country. We still have a way to go but it is getting much better. Power to ALL of us. :hi:

2. Isn't he a Chairman?
Chairman of a vital committee and he did it without hiding in a closet? Re-elected over and over? While the Republicans still cower amid the snow boots and winter coats?

3. Chairman of Financial Services
In fairness he was in the closet for his first 8 years of his service but he has been out now for 16 years.
