What they really were saying was this:

Ms. Sheehan, we apologize. We knew you were not breaking the law and we knew we were violating your Civil Liberties. You were ejected from the SOTU because of who you are, not what you were wearing. Bush is really afraid of you, and if you were present during the SOTU, he would have done worse than he did (yeah, I know it doesn't seem possible, but he would have ended up staring at you like he did at that swinging light during his latest press conference). At any rate, we didn't want to arrest you. That was a direct order from Bush himself. He's such a coward. You had every right to be there and you certainly did not do anything illegal. We hope you sue.
