I think we should have a Purple Heart band aid day and mail off
Edited on Thu Feb-02-06 08:57 AM by Toots
Purple Heart band aids to every Republican Congressman to let them know we have not forgotten how they question and mock those who have been wounded in battle while defending their country. Republicans mock those who have shed their blood for their country and they need to be reminded we have not forgotten. What is the Purple Heart Band aid all about except mockery? Why should they get off scott free on such behavior? It would be nice if a concerted effort could be made as it would attract publicity. They need to be held accountable. I think it would help if we mailed Purple Heart Band aids to the Media as well. Let everyone know and remember what slime Republicans truly are.

1. The main problem I see with this idea is merely
that they are impervious to subtlety. I think they & their staffs open the envelopes & just discard any that don't contain either checks or blackmail photos.

2. I won't do it
The purple heart bandaids are disrespectful of real Purple Heart recipients.
They make light of wounded soldiers.
I was embarrassed for the conventioneers who wore them and
I'm not about to engage in the same type behavior that I found so disturbing.

3. I have a Purple Heart and I am very offended by their mockery
That is why I want to address the matter. You would rather it just disappear and be forgotten? I don't understand your logic but oh well. I will do it anyway and I realize my voice is small but I will not allow it to be silenced.

4. perhaps the bandaids should be stapled
to pictures of the very real soldiers, with their real wounds.. along with the note
"you Republicans are sooooo funny"

8. I am amazed that a country with more "support the troops' stickers
than I would ever have thought possible, could watch that convention and NOT react with revulsion at those band aids. I can imagine it was worse for people like you who were wounded. What still hurts )and surprised me) is that NOT ONE Republican speaker asked people to take them off - which likely means that this was approved by their leaders.

Senator McCain was one of those speakers. He built his career on being a POW. He and Kerry had talked extensively and they had together gone to the cell where he was imprisoned. Kerry has always shown respect for McCain's suffering. He knew that the man he has called a friend was wounded 3 times, yet he stood there and spoke to that crowd without saying a word about the band aids. This, not campaigning with Bush, is the betrayal that makes me have no respect for McCain.

9. Two wrongs don't make a right
I sent letters to the R leaders years ago
detailing my discomfort on this issue.

Go ahead and send your bandaids if you want
but don't accuse me of doing nothing
just because I won't send out the damned bandaids.

5. Agreed
The Purple Heart is the oldest US military medal. It was started by the General of the Armies, George Washington, which is why it has on it his portrait and coat of arms. For that reason, if no other, it should never be mocked. The conventioneers who wore those bandaids are despicable.

OTOH, the Order of the Yellow Chickenhawk would be appropriate.

6. I'm with you on this..
that disgusting action by the Repubs at their convention has stayed with me...I'm not a vet, but my Dad was, and I thought it was SO disrespectful..even..or especially...from them.
