My old brain is befuddled: the "purple finger" thing...was it at a SOTU
or at the Repug convention in 04? I seem to remember it was at the convention but some DUers have commented on it as being during a 'State of the Union" speech.....?

1. It was an Iraqi voting fraud prevention measure
After voting, the Iraqi voter would get purple ink on his/her finger so he/she couldn't vote a second time.

Obviously not a Diebold thing.

But the right-wingers adopted it as one of their pieces of patriotic kitch.

2. Probably both..the purple band-aid was the convention for sure
The have had several elections in Iraq, so it's likely they have vats of purple ink, stored in the White House basement.. Rover probably goes down and stirs it every night.
