I'm not looking for overly optimistic DUers' opinions or even prayers.

Does anyone have any idea of the realistic chances that he makes it or doesn't?
Is the Senate definitely safe?

Thanks - been out of the loop for a while.

1. They were taking him of sedation...he'll need some sort of therapy
speech maybe but he's on target as recovery goes.

I also heard that Teri Gar had aneurysm surgery recently. She's fine too.

2. There's been nothing but positive news
the impression being given is that he'll be just fine with time, as well as can be expected of anyone in his position. Also, I'm not sure your description of what happened to him is correct.

But at any rate that's the best anyone's gonna get. The laws don't allow the hospital to blurt stuff out without permission anymore.

3. Latest from LBN...
Doctor Expects 'Long Recovery' For Sen. Johnson

In short, the doctor expects a recovery of months, not weeks.

4. not to be unsympathetic, but
As far as the politics are concerned, as soon as the Senate organizes tomorrow it wouldn't matter if a Democratic senator died, as they would already be in charge of the Senate and wouldn't agree to a vote to reorganize. Hopefully, Johnson will be back in the Senate before too long.
