Tweety's Message to Pelosi: Don't Fund Surge
On today's Today Show, Tweety sets things straight --

"She (Pelosi) better have, it seems to me, a strong voice about the war. And that's not just putting Jack Murtha out there to lose. And she's gotta get out there and win on this argument. This is going to come down to funding, whether anybody like it or not. The purse strings are now controlled by the Democrats; they cannot abdicate that. They have to choose, whether they're for the president's position with this new escalation that seems to be coming or they're not with him. They can't fall back and tut-tut and hiss the president. They've got to do something about it."

8. Give no quarter....
...or nut or bolt or one additional American soldier for BushCo's criminal war of agression Nancy.

We expect no less.

We The People spoke loud and clear in November.

We know you will listen.

3. The myth behind The Surge: Dems embrace it, cut themselves off
Edited on Wed Jan-03-07 10:51 AM by leveymg
from the party grass-roots and get (not unjustly) labelled as "wafflers". Result: Party is badly split going into the 2008 elections, and Dems earn a reputation as being ineffective and unreliable leaders, if not downright cowardly.

If, on the other hand, Pelosi leads the Dems to successfully thwart Bush's bloody, unworkable scheme, Bush and the GOP (and a large part of the corporate media) get to sling the mud that the Democrats "lost" Iraq, and try to ride that myth back into power.

That's the calculus behind "the surge". It's a myth, because it can't work to bring "victory" in Iraq, and it works as a sharp political wedge. Just another nasty political trick.

The White House is playing games with the lives of American troops. This is so grotesquely transparent that the Generals may finally arrange for Mr. Bush's early departure.

6. Isn't that what the Dem plan is? Didn't they announce last week they were united
on NOT sending more troops? The only way to do that is to not fund it. Thanks for the advice Tweety.:eyes:

7. I dunno. I just heard a Dem on MSNBC (Rep. Cooper) who claimed
he'd be in favor of a surge if it's only temporary. :eyes: I don't know how united they really are.

9. Cooper is a "Blue Dog" Democrat. I hope these Blue Dogs don't screw things up
for us.:grr: I'm willing to take a 'wait and see' approach for a few weeks, maybe months, but if they go against the Democrats on important issues like this, I am not going to be a happy camper. What good does a majority do when you have a group who's going to vote repuke all the time? We'll see what happens.:(
