Day of Mourning for Ford is My Day of Mourning for 3,003 U.S. Troops
I'm a news watcher. I keep the news on in my house almost 24/7. It's even on as I write this. Over the past few days the media has been closely following the death of former President Gerald Ford and his many memorial services. What strikes me as strange is that the media is giving so much attention to one man's funeral while ignoring the http://icasualties.org/oif/">3,003 funerals of U.S. Service men and women that have taken place due to the ongoing war in Iraq. George W. Bush managed to release a statement hours after Ford's death, yet here we are passing the 3,000 mark on the U.S. death toll in Iraq and Bush has not made any statement. He's busy vacationing at his Crawford ranch right now. A President who sends his country's Military to fight in a deadly war - especially one based on lies and deceptions - should be concerned with every single death caused by that war. Our so-called "Commander in Chief" is not. Instead we have a coward in the Oval Office who seems to be borderline sociopathic. I'm mourning today. I'm mourning the 3,003 American troops killed in the Iraq war and the tens of thousands more Iraqi's that have been killed. I'm mourning for our country - because it's not the same America it used to be. Rest In Peace vicitims of this war. We will not let you be forgotten.

8. Thoughtful message Ava, we all should be feeling the same way
Daily there are funerals for our dead troops, daily they are entering the hospitals to try to recover from injuries, and once or twice a year Nummy (W) mentions the fallen with no sign of sadness, unbelievable.

If Congress doesn't immediately start a commotion on the Hill to get something figured out for our withdrawal we should all bombard them with mail, calls, and marches. Our votes need to count!

7. As sad as Ford's funeral is...
(and I can't imagine standing in the cold weather for 8 hours to view his body, 60,000 have gone through at the latest)

The deaths of our troops are much more important. Presidents come and go but our current one put us in hell. Yet we continue to ignore the bloodshed and pain and paint as "growing pains" or some shit like that.

Yes I am going to miss Ford, I am not of that generation so I don't know why many on DU don't like him that much. (Shows how much I know about history, lol, but then again I am feeling a bit lazy today to look anything up tonight)

Hopefully once the funeral blows over we can focus our attention on the new Congress (Thursday!!!) and the farce that is the Iraq War.

God, I do feel sorry for our troops, God only knows the kind of crap that they are going through.

10. You know to tell you the truth I felt sadder for Saddam then I did for Ford
It wasn't so much that I actually felt sorry for him I was ashamed that our countyr has been lowered to this. Thug enforcers for goons! Yeah that's it that is why I felt so bad about the lynching of Saddam because we guided it to it's completion!

9. I didn't watch one second of the Ford proceedings.
He was a nice enough guy but bottom line he interfered with the process of justice. He wouldn't have done that for a poor black kid in Harlem picked up for having an ounce of pot or cocaine. There are people rotting in jails for the crime of having pot. But a cheap criminal like Nixon gets a pass because we should all "Get ALong" BLEEEECKHHHH!!!
Fuck Ford Fuck Bush and if the Dems don't do what they were sent to WQashington to do..AND THAT IS STOP BUSH AND HIS ENTIRE FUCKED UP AGENDA...Then fuck them as well!
