Oh, Monkeyman...
Edited on Tue Jan-02-07 11:07 PM by TomInTib
Every day you are here with updates on the horrors being heaped upon Veterans and the shameful attacks on our Health issues.

Every day, unflinchingly dedicated.

That's our Monkeyman.

And now this.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x3028551

Every once in a while I become thoroughly incensed and fed up with this place, this Democratic Underground.

But then something such as Monkeyman's loss comes around and makes me realize that this place is a community.

Just as with one's hometown, one may chafe at the residents and customs and cliques at times but it is - nonetheless - part of us all.

And it reminds me that there are still, even in these hard, cynical times, selfless Champions such as Monkeyman.

Take care, Brother.

We are with you.

But then, you know that, don't you?

Tom

1. So much sadness in the world; Monkeyman was fighting that, and
now he gets so much personal sadness. I'm here for him. And thanks, Tom.

25. And I thank you, Straight Shooter..
You are far too kind.

Take care of you and yours, my friend.

And say a little prayer for Monkeyman.
If you have it in you.
I had to go deep to find that place...

9. I'm OK. You? We haven't talked in a while.
Actually, a pretty good week for me; I've managed to work 7 full hours, two days in a row. Been a long time since I've been able to do that.

This keeps up, I'm gonna dust off the guitar. Or maybe the Autoharp first.

5. You have captured what is in everyone's heart.
Monkeyman is a favorite of mine. I just came on to the discussions. I usually just stick to the main page. Since I've been in discussions I have come to respect and look forward to monkeyman.
To loose a spouse is hard. I wish words could say the sadness everyone is feeling for him tonight.

10. I know, mike_c
Isn't it great how our community of Brothers is so inclusive?

That we could cry, not for the loss of one of our own, but for the loss off one of theirs.

Monkeyman's loss has affected me in a way that I would not have thought possible just one hour ago.

Strength to Monkeyman at this time of loss.
He has been there for others. Time for us to support him.

We fight, we grouse, but we are, in a way, family here. A family by our choice, perhaps the strongest bonds.

We are here for you Monkeyman. And we send collective strength to you. Any one of us will lend an ear or a shoulder.

We are family and we are here anytime you need us.

8. My heart is with Monkeyman
I'm so sorry for his grief and pain, it never ends, it only subsides, ebb and flow.
I too have been taking a break here, but always feel renewed by the power of the compassion that is one of the cornerstones of DU.

12. So sorry, it's so hard to lose your partner in life, your love, your soulmate.

Outside the rain begins and it may never end
So cry no more on the shore
A dream will take us out to sea
Forever more forever more
Close your eyes and dream
And and you can be with me
'Neath the waves through the caves of hours
Long forgotten now
We're all alone
We're all alone

Close the window
Calm the light
And it will be alright
No need to bother now
Let it out
Let it all begin
Learn how to pretend

Once a story's told
It can't help but grow old
Roses do
Lovers too
So cast your seasons to the wind
And hold me dear
Oh, hold me dear

Close the window
Calm the light
And it will be alright
No need to bother now
Let it out
Let it all begin
All's forgotten now
We're all alone
oh-oh, we're all alone

If I recall correctly, he puts up a good fight for vets, has recently lost his vet buddy (Randy, I believe) and now his wife. Too much in such a short period.

But I inhabit that space between sleep and consciousness.

It is a tight knit.

And it is in that space in which I thrive.

God bless you, Monkeyman.

You've perfectly captured the sense of community that exists here on DU, along with the sense of loss we all feel when one of our own loses someone near and dear.

In the last post I saw from Monkeyman, he was consoling another DUer on the loss of her nephew in Iraq: "May St. Peter know that a soldier is reporting for duty tonight."

Peace be with you, Monkeyman, and Godspeed to Ms. Monkeyman on her journey to the other side of this life.
