Yet another coworker parrots "Ford healed the nation by pardoning Nixon"-- the Libby seed is planted
I'm more and more convinced they'll try to use this reasoning and make these comparisons when Bush pardons Libby--I wasn't convinced before, but now I see how well it's taking, I can see it already...

1. The nation didn't need healing. By that time the only one bleeding was Nixon
And deservedly so.

5. Healed..?? what happened was an investigation into money laundering & brives by the IRS was stopped
that would probably have ended the Republican party.. they were carrying cases with 2 million dollars a shot, handing them over in state cars..

2. Sad for the U.S. that so many on the right hate the left and so many on the left hate the right.
How can anyone govern a nation when people are polarized to the point of pure hate for their opposition?

Peace and may good fortune be the only thing you encounter in 2007. :hi:

3. yet another example of pure disgraced republican propaganda
funny, i don't remember ANYONE claiming that the pardon "healed a divided nation" at the time. it certainly wasn't the mainstream view. maybe the radical right felt that way, but no one else did.

in the first place, the nation was UNITED in being opposed to nixon and watergate.
in the second place, since when does pardoning a criminal heal ANYTHING?

name another criminal, caught on tape commiting crimes, when the nation would be better off if he were pardoned before trial?

4. There was no healing by Fords pardon of Nixon remember? For almost 30
years the pukes sought revenge for the democratic part in the resignation of Nixon. They thought they had Clinton with White Water but ended up with a stained blue dress and egg on their face. Btw, White Water might resurface as a tool against Hillery, according to a bushbot in another forum.

Healed? How is that healing when all it did was set the country up for the Reagan years and the little boy who cried terror? Which put the master minds behind Nixon's venture into the illegal into power? They learned nothing except how to be more crafty in how they stripped the nation of the Bill of Rights. They convinced american voters that the only right they need to worry about was the 2nd amendment. Because gun owners can use their deer rifes to over throw the government and the big bad democrats were taking that away from them.

Nixon was pardoned. I was quite stunned when that dolt pardoned him.

Congress went through a whole song and dance to get Agnew out BEFORE they started the Watergate hearings. No way did they want him as president. Besides - he was genuinely and rightly convicted of tax evasion.

So, when Ford eventually got in, he selected none other then Nelson Rockefeller as his VP. I really think that this is when the current corporate takeover of the Republikkk party began in earnest. They started pulling the strings and and I think that they influenced Fords decision BEFORE he ever took the office.

on edit: added "current corporate takeover..."
