Racist Thug Hal Turner Facing the Wrath of Hackers

Turner, for those unfamiliar with his brand of hate, uses his website and podcasts to advocate the murder of "savage negro beasts," immigrants, Jews, gays, congressmen, the President, and pretty much everyone else who does not fit his narrow definition of "human." His greatest claim to fame was calling for the murder of federal district judge Joan Lefkow. The FBI later interviewed him following the murders of her mother and husband on February 28, 2005, but did not find reason to detain him further.

The drama began when Turner published home telephone numbers of some minors who prank called his radio show earlier in the month. After the thick-headed Turner refused to remove this information, the offended pranksters went on the offensive, seeking the assistance of friends on sites such as 4chan.org, 7chan.org, and Digg.com.

In retaliation, they began a campaign of DOS attacks and bandwidth flooding against Turner's site, causing him to shut down the site many times over the last week. Lunkheaded Hal, though, appears to be his own worst enemy, as he continues to egg on the hackers. He published a bloody photo of one of the "attackers" last week - claiming the hacker was the victim of a brutal beating by skinheads allied to him - but it turned out that Hal simply Googled "bloody head" and posted a heisted photo.

Hal now faces a tough decision: shut down the site, thus losing the $40,000 to $60,000 he claims to make from listener donations, or keep the site up, and pay the bandwidth fees to the company that hosts his site.

Which of course, knowing what I do about economics, sounded completely nuts. If they own our debt, they wouldn't want to devalue the debt they own. They also wouldn't want to kill off their biggest trading partner.

So I thought it was pretty odd, so I looked him up, can't remember if it was Wikipedia or just Google, but one way or another, I found his Wikipedia entry, and it said he was white nationalist. That's what tipped me off to his hate roots, because David Duke is a white nationalist.

I didn't just see the article on DU however, I saw it on a mixed forum called perspectives.com first.

I wonder where they originally got the article from?

People should *research* their sources before they go off half-cocked based on the ramblings of some essentially anonymous individual.

I hate to sound harsh, but I don't have a great deal of sympathy for people who cite sources with which they are unfamiliar.

I had a high school teacher contact me once about a paper one of her students had written, citing me as an "academic" source without any further acknowledgment of original sources, much to my astonishment. I maintain a website that deals with a particular historical subject, but the vast majority of the information on the site is gathered from other sources. Commentary written by me is clearly labeled, and I also clearly indicate I do not have the credentials that would make me an appropriate attribution for a formal paper. Still, as I learned from this exchange with the teacher, someone did, and that student correctly was given the option of taking an "F" for improper use of sources or re-writing the paper with proper attributions given.

Actually, I would have been tempted to give the paper an "F" anyway. The student not only cited me inappropriately but drew all the wrong conclusions from what I had written, quoted me out of context, and completely ignored primary sources I offered that directly refuted what the student had written.

Random crap you find on the Internet doesn't mean anything.

I have no empathy with Turner...in fact, being Jewish, I wish this vermin would vanish from this planet. The pisser here is that if these kids staged a deliberate DOS attack on the server, they could face criminal action. I know...I know. It should be Turner's speech that is prosecuted for its vile and violent nature, but hacking is a major problem. But this guy went way beyond the bounds of "free speech" when he posted the minors' personal information, refused to remove it when requested, and then started making threats of violence against them, like this:
