Was Saddam Hussein a tyrant and a murderer? Of course. Did uncountable numbers of Shiites and Kurds suffer under his regime. Sure they did. Did Hussein have many of his political enemies tortured? Visit the torture cells at his White Lion prison and see for yourself.
However, Iraq was illegally invaded by a decree from George W. Bush, who defied the world and his own father's relatively wise counsel to do so, and set up a puppet government in Baghdad. US troops captured a fleeing Saddam Hussein and reportedly drugged him, threw him into a "spider hole," and pulled him out again once the film crews were on site. Then Hussein was subjected to a kangaroo court, convicted, condemned, and finally hanged while yet another videocamera caught the whole thing for posterity.
America is better than this. Americans are better than this. The Bush administration, however, is not. And the Bush administration has brought shame upon us all.
