Help Me Understand
Saddam Hussein executed for gassing some hundreds of Kurds.

Bush kills 3,000 US troops (maimed some 20,000 or so) and probably some 600,000 Iraqis.

Is there a disconnect here?

The implications are obvious to me.

to describe Saddam as merely a fall guy, is so ahistrorical, that I really couldn't let it pass without taking note. Yes, Saddam was backed by American administrations, but sorry, that doesn't begin to explain the man, his climb to power, or his use of power. Much as it may delight you to blame the U.S. for all of Saddam's actions, it's simply not accurate to describe him as merely a fall guy.

He was hanged for executing those suspected of plotting to overthrow the government.

Which leads me to this question...Is plotting to overthrow the US government also punishable by death?

I feel compelled to ask. There's an enormous difference between the deaths of men women and children in a Kurdish town, succumbing to death by poisoned gas, and the deaths of soldiers, all of whom volunteered.

Yes, the war is awful, misbegotten, and more. Yes, each death is a tragic loss for families, whether Iraqi (and frankly the Iraq deaths trouble me more than the deaths of U.S. soldiers) or American, but it is not the same thing as gassing innocent civilians. That's worse, much worse, and it's just sad that that should have to be explained.

It IS the same thing.

Iraq did NOTHING. NOT ONE DAMNED THING to harm or threaten us. This is a cowboy vendetta, fixed from the time the Simian took the United States hostage.

What the hell do you think our military is doing to their innocent civilians over there? THE SAME DAMNED THING SADDAM DID, only they're not doing it with gas, they're doing it with bullets.

Ever hear of the lyric "meet the new boss, same as the old boss"??
