So Sadam is dead
Edited on Fri Dec-29-06 11:27 PM by nadinbrzezinski
talking to a friend of mine

Executed at the moment that the feast that celebrates the end of Ramadan happens

You are not supposed to execute anybody on a holy day

So not only have we executed a person without a fair trial, but ensured that this will piss folks off...

And you'd think the Maliki government would KNOW this

Expect the gates of hell to fully open now

1. But doesn't another holy period now start, where Muslims go to the Haj?
I don't know much about it other than it's about to happen or is happening.

4. Here's some info...
The Americans met with Iraqis on Friday to "decide" on a date.

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/

There are 3 million muslims in Saudi Arabia right now. Our soldiers are in grave danger at the moment. This is really frightening. Those rat bastards did this on purpose. WTF?

9. Why are our soldiers in any more danger because
the US was involved in the timing? The bastard was going down one way or the other.
Maybe the US citizens should get stark-raving angry that, per that first quote, Americans are being (constantly) lied to?

7. There may be some twisted reasoning behind the timing
a) Hussein was viewed as a secular leader, so therefore, this may cause mass celebration among religious Moslems and reduce the level of violence among Shi'ites and Kurds, thus easing their opposition to long term U.S. interests.
b) This will escalate the anger among the minority Sunnis, increase their violence and Bush will be justified sending more troops just like they were planning on doing in the first place. But now they will only be fighting 1/3 of the Iraqis instead of all of them.

Neither reason I presented is anything other than simpleminded wishful thinking which I suspect is the only kind of strategy this White House is capable of concocting. This is the crew that tried to sell us "shock and awe", "hearts and minds", and "flowers in the street".

If you want to guess how our foreign policy is currently concocted, imagine the simplest and most idiotic premise you can think of, then execute. I may not be that far off the mark.

12. Could they have been Christians?
There are Christian Iraqis. Maybe BushCo found some that were willing to do so since it's not a Christian holiday.

13. Read Josh's TPM take on it
we had quite a bit to say on the timing... we just turned him over to the Iraqis for the actual deed... but you should be able to smell our hand in all of this

15. I am sure our hand was indeed in it
But they are now a sovereign government and could have chosen to let him live.

See my earlier OP for my take on it all....

16. They are just as sovereign as the
Government on Seul was independent from the French in '55

Or as sovereign as any other colony.

We are very much in it
