1. We *don't* suck
the lying criminals still running this country until January, however, most certainly do.

Mr. Reid, Ms. Pelosi, you've got a ton of work to do and not much time to do it.

3. I hear you, my friend. I feel sick. Even CSI & Law & Order sicken me these days.
They just seem to reflect our culture's entertainment fantasies of manufactured aggression, pain & death. It's just too much blood lust.

The execution of the head of state of a sovereign nation - I'm sure we'll see some "art reflecting life" episode on that next fall.

 :puke:

4. How is that any different than Hamlet?
It was ever thus.

7. Ah - my favorite Shakespearean drama. Funny you should ask....
Hamlet (the work of art) was NEVER concerned with fetishistic glorification of torture of the body, pain, suffering, death and physical gruesomeness as the above mentioned TV shows are.

Hamlet (the work) is so much deeper than that - it is about the human condition reflected in the RELATIONSHIPS between people: existentialism, jealousy, suspicion, self-doubt, incest, mental illness, guilt, anger, shame, disgust, betrayal, loyalty, etc., etc.

This things are NOWHERE NEAR the same, they are incomparable.

5. I like "24". It's called fiction.
The torture, killing and executions the bush administration has been doing is unfortunately real life.

9. and normalization. Kinda like how talk-radio hate spew is A-OK these days too.
I'm not knocking anyone's TV choices, I like some weird stuff myself, but all the preoccupation with torture, blood lust, killing and death is really getting to be too much for me.

It's like a virtual Roman Colosseum in my living room - gross.
