Motivation for the rush to murder Saddam
I heard a commentator on All Things Considered this afternoon, and he was saying Saddam's expedited execution is a crime against the Kurdish people (or the family and survivors, anyway). He continued on to say that a trial's only purpose isn't necessarily to assign guilt or innocence, but to establish on record exactly what happened. He mentioned that a trial for the gassing of the Kurds would likely reveal other individuals and countries that were complicit in that crime against humanity.

He was beating around the bush a bit, but is it possible that the USA is one of the countries he was referring to? Is it possible that the Dujail trial came first with the specific purpose of obscuring details surrounding the gassing of the Kurds?

Someone more knowledgeable than me...please chime in.

1. I have been asking myself the same thing since I heard the same report.
My SO says we supported the Kurds. But hell, I wonder if we sold Saddam the mustard gas?

2. "He was beating around the bush" ? :-)
I think you answered your own question :)

Seriously though, no. I don't think we played a part in that. Well, except as the poster above stated, we were probably responsible for him owning a lot of the weapons he had in the first place. But that's old news......Typical cold war puppeteering and par for the course.
