Poll question: What are your feelings about President Ford?
There have been a lot of points of view express at DU on the recent passing of Ford. The view range for from Ford sucked to he was a decent man and president. I know I didn't get every view presented since there are only 10 catagories. If your view isn't here then please select other
and comment on your feelings. Thanks

1. Ford prevented full truth from being told to American people - just as Dem presidents did.
Why do we pretend that TRUTH doesn't matter when it is painfully obvious that the continuation of the coverups is just too costly to this nation and its integrity?

2. Gerald Ford remembered by nation as Gerald Ford.
Pretty much it. Didn't get much done, but didn't do much wrong either (except for the pardon). I'm sure late night comedians everywhere are saddened by the loss.

8. He couldn't have been too bright.

He let the rethuglican high rollers talk him in to pardoning Richard "I am not a crook" Nixon.

One has to wonder what the tradeoff must have been.

9. I voted he was a decent mand.
Does not have to mean I agreed with him that much of the time. He was a war hawk all during the start of the VietNam war. But, now has the nerve to tell Bush II he is wrong. I think at least he'd rule honestly, if not wrong most of the time.

10. Did he ever do anything besides golf in his retirement? Did he do any "good"
for any groups or the country in general?

12. You mean like joining Jimmy Carter to oversee
international elections? I heard that on the news yesterday.

11. I have virtually no feelings about it, and I'm puzzled that so many feel so strongly.
I do not believe he was a significant player.

He's had a long, quiet retirement.

I have no strong feelings, positive or negative, about him, and think there are much more pressing matters than whatever he did during his brief presidency.

13. The opposite of love is indifference. The opposite of hate is indifference.

Count me indifferent to a mediocre president who did about the same amount of damage to the republic as most mediocre presidents.

14. He was a decent president except for the Nixon pardon.
Much much better than Reagan or the Bush nightmare.

15. Yet if Nixon had remained President
his successor would probably been someone from the Nixon wing of the party and not Reagan (which means no Bush I or II). Probably by the end of Nixon's 2nd term the nation might have been ready to elect someone more liberal than Carter (Kennedy, McGovern, Jackson who knows). I guess that'll be one for those alternate universe guys who write SF to ponder

of that too and think you're most likely correct.
