With only a little more than a week left in December, 75 American soldiers have lost their lives in Iraq. This is an average of more than three per day for this month. For this year, only October was bloodier. By mid-January, at least 3,000 American soldiers will have died in Iraq.
And in the meantime, Bush does nothing.
Except celebrate the holidays in fancy dress with his rich friends and fellow political cronies at taxpayer expense.
And even after his father's friends offered him a way out of the mess and perhaps retain a shred of dignity, Bush has clearly flat out refused even to accept that. Why? Simple, he does not live in reality, but instead lives in a world created by his own fantasy. In this man's fantasy world he believe cannot do no wrong. Anyone who tells him otherwise are ignored. But his fantasy world, piece by piece, has been breaking down. Because reality, and the people, are saying so.
Yet, despite the Generals telling him so, despite ISG telling him so, and despite what the people said so, he wants to increase the number of troops in harms way in Iraq. Mr. President, just to what end are you trying to achieve? And just where are you going to get more troops when our own Army is as stretched thin as it is?
Never has there been a President so disconnected with the American people in 100 years, perhaps ever.
When the soldiers do come home, many do not come back whole, but instead return wounded and possibly permanently physically disabled. Or worse, there come back within boxes draped by the American flag. Just how many must suffer for one man's lack of hubris?
This Christmas, I would offer a prayer for our troops abroad. So that they may return home safely.
