Key Dem Committees Hiring LAWYER-INVESTIGATORS To Probe Bush Admin
Democrats Hiring Up for Investigations

Evidence continues to mount that the new Democratic majority plans to investigate the war, energy policy, and other Bush policies, as key committees have begun hiring lawyer-investigators whose job will be to probe the administration. In the House, for example, the Appropriations Committee under Rep. John Murtha's direction is hiring investigators who will be charged with looking into the administration's war policies and spending in Iraq and Afghanistan. Also, Rep. Henry Waxman, the incoming chairman of the House Government Reform Committee who's been dogging the vice president's energy task force, is also hiring lawyers. A Democratic leadership official said that the planned hearings and investigations into the war and other issues the lawyer-investigators are being hired to look into will be "very focused." In the Senate, officials said similar hirings were underway in a speeded up effort to have people in place for the start of the new Congress, especially the planned early January hearings into the war and military spending that are set to begin January 8.

89. Maybe I should try to get a job up there
I have the J.D. but not the license. Worked in the legal system my whole life.
Bet I could get a job that would keep me buried in paper for a loooooooong time.

Third-generation Democrat, dad voted for Norman Thomas, dad was a union organizer/pipefitter before he was a lawyer. Grandma voted for Roosevelt, grew up in a law office. I think my liberal credentials are good too.

Delete that e-mail - go to jail.
Ignore that subpoena - go to jail.
Lie to investigators - go to jail.
Lie on the stand - go to jail.
Claim Executive Priviledge - go to jail, after your appeal.
Get pardoned - you can't claim the Fifth after a pardon, you must testify.
Refuse to testify - go to jail.

That means you, Mr. Cheney.
That means you, too, Mr. Bush.

Merry Fitzmas.

A few members of Congress already have warehouses and servers full of evidence.Stuff that without a doubt will expose bushco for what criminals they are. Some friendly prosecutors, assisted by whistle blowers have already been hard at work gathering evidence. All thats left is to present it to the people.
My recommendation is to buy stock in TiVo.

Certainly these investigations will expose the BFEE for the criminals they are. If/when this happens, impeachment has to be put back on the table!!

is that they spent many more times as much money (aprox $70m versus $11m) trying to find dirt on the Clenis as they did on pretending/trying to find out who was responsible for 9-11.

with his beautiful wife behind him.

I can't remember the words, but I was so struck by the whole thing.

That's why I can't be one to brush off impeachment now. Where would we be if we hadn't had the temerity to go ahead with it then?

Conversely, where would we be if we had gone ahead with Iran/Contra impeachment hearings?

It's time.

28. Whether a criminal has Alzheimers or not doesn't affect being
charged with a crime.

It took place on his watch, he was responsible, and should be held accountable.

Whether there were impeachable offenses that could be charged and proved is a whole other conversation.

Dems need to back away from being the party of "soft on crime"

is far more sinister.

They used him, but he was truly not knowledgable of what was going on.

The only way he could have stood trial is if he was capable of understandng the charges against him... this is the legal standard. I suspect that by 1988 he wasn't... why the Handlers kept him away from the press

The truth of his condition needed to be told!

Yes, it would have thrown the country into a temporary tizzy, but.... look what might have been avoided down the line, if the truth was outted.

Either way, it would have been beneficial to the country.

88. Don't forget Charlie Rangel
Charlie Rangel was head of the House Judiciary Committee, that Barbara Jordan was on when they were about to impeach Tricky Dick. He's been around forever, just like John Conyers.

I know this because in her famous speech, Barbara thanked Chairman Rangel for the appointment, which was a way of being ironic and trying to put a tiny bit of humor in a grave situation.

My partner and I put together a CD-ROM biography of Barbara Jordan's life, right after she died in 1996. We never got financing from her church for a charitable project to sell it to raise money for a community center with her name on it. At that time, the production costs for CDs were prohibitive. We got permission from the TSU archives and one of the local TV stations to use the footage.

We should redo it in DVD if there was a market and a demand for it. One thing I learned was: Never approach a minister with a financial deal even if it is for a good cause. They want ALL the money.

43. The rape of California
The Bush administration's complicity in Enron's rape of California in 2000 must be fully investigated. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission did NOTHING as Enron and others deliberately manipulated the west coast energy markets, intentionally shutting down power plants during peak demand to create artificial shortages and drive up energy prices. Bush's close relationship to Ken Lay was likely the basis for FERC's failure to do its job.

Thanks, I've been around a while but rarely posted. I did a lot of debating on the Yahoo boards, but it got so trashy Yahoo shut them down. It got hard to find a worthy Republican who was willing to debate.

91. All roads lead back to Enron!
If there's one company on this planet that pisses me off more than any other, it's them. ENRON!

That's right! I blame everything on Enron!

44. So lemme see if I have this straight..
Impeachment is off the table. Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid don't want to be seen as vindictive... but.. there are going to be lots of investigations and it is possible that the weight of the evidence will be so strong that Pelosi and Reid will be "forced" to put it back on the table. Is that the way it is supposed to play out?

Forgive me, Im a little slow on the uptake :-)

46. impeachmnet
Impeachment or no impeachment, exposing corruption and incompetence in the opposition party is usually a winner, but certainly if high crimes happen to be disclosed, they have little choice but to introduce a bill of impeachment. perhaps the Democrats could pick up brownie points by being magnanimous and stopping it in committee.

48. Why, pray tell, would they "stop it in committee"?
Isn't the Constitution worth something?

68. impeachment?
I'm not sure the American people would support impeachment. It might be seen as merely a partisan payback for Clinton's impeachment. Personally, I would like nothing better than to see him impeached, removed from office, and tried for war crimes.

70. Please, do me (and you) a favor... search for H2OMan's thread
on impeachment, and have yourself a read.

I'm so pooped I can hardly type, (and I'm snowblinded) or I would look it up for you...

It is worth reading. He's a deep thinker. :)

Then, cogitate upon it, and then....after a deep breath (because his posts can leave you gasping..) come back and let me know what you think.

I hope you will do that.

Again, welcome to DU! :bounce:

I see you have a star, but I don't know if you have to have a certain post count before you can use search.

Let me know...

And, if you could, dial down the sunshine here a bit for me, 'k?

IT'S SO FRICKIN' BRIGHT ON THE SNOW!!

Ok, now I feel better. ~~gigglesnort~~

80. I'm sorry, fooie....I should have just waited...my eyes have finally stopped
with the black spots and such, so I was able to locate it:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=364&topic_id=2659066

H2OMan is one of our cherished scholars, and I think you will find this of interest. If you have time, of course, the comments after also add more. If I remember correctly, he later put forth his idea of going after Cheyney. I would also suggest bookmarking it. As is usual with the Waterman, there is much to chew on in this, and it may bear subsequent readings. :)

Again, I'm sorry to send you on a wild-goose chase....my eyes were just a mess. Danged sun! ^_^

Let me know what you think....

And, thanks for your openness!

CHIRP! :hi:

76. Read on Watergate
by the time he resigned, the pitches and forks were ready. He also swept for a second term less than two years before

It depends on what is uncovered and how much attention people pay to this and how much coverage is given.

But enough outrage adn the people will demand it

Boy, did Jeb get that right! He is supposed to be the smart one in that family. He probably knew that by the time the Democrats finish the investigations, the Bush name will be trash, forever and a day!
Do I hear the Hallelujah Chorus in the background? Just in time for Xmas, or should I say, Fitzmas?
