This is the only way I see Junior increasing the size of the military.

I will not support the draft. I had to live with it as a teen with no power to vote against it.

Voting for a draft would be offering more lives to be slaughtered by this
utterly inept administration.

IMHO

1. I told my family two years ago
that if there was a draft, I would happily go to jail.

I still stand by that today.

3. My uncle spent a couple of years in Danbury for refusing to
fight in World War II. He never regretted his decision.

7. I'm sure he can't. But he may take Charlie Rangel at his word and support him.
Then it's 'our' draft.

13. I doubt if Rangle will be reintroducing the resolution.
That will have to come from some GOP foot soldier in the house or senate.

16. I wouldn't be too sure about that
He introduced it first in January 2003, and again in February 2006.

He's said that it's coming again when the 110th convenes.

wouldn't it be a kick in the head if the Repubs run to support it?

4. I oppose anything Bush proposes.
Normally, however, I prefer a conscript army to a volunteer one. It is unconscionable that we have raised a generation which feels no obligation to this country whatsoever.

5. What he is going to try and do is get it to the point where the Dem's in Congress institute the draf...
thereby defeating the Dem's chances in 08.

In the short term they will just revoke end of tour for thousands of troops due to come home in the coming months causing more stress on the military as it stands now.

The soldiers are nothing more than pawns to this puke.

total agreement here, but something tells me he won't call it a 'draft' ..... what other euphemism they will come up with to soften the blow I don't know, nor care to know, but it's coming. Peace.

18. He's going to have no choice but to draft
Edited on Wed Dec-20-06 05:27 PM by AngryOldDem
The National Guard is finite and at the rate he is going he will run through that option in a matter of months. (Not to mention that calling up the Guard for this purpose is a blatant misuse of the Guard, and goes against what its mission is. He learned nothing from New Orleans, either.) With recruiting as it is, he will not get his numbers from volunteers. He can maybe extend tours of duty, but not indefinitely. That leaves the draft. I don't see it as a "third-rail" issue anymore because it's obvious that he does not care one whit about public opinion, especially as it concerns the war.

I just hope that when the Democrats assume power in January, they stymie whatever foolishness he wants to do for the next two years. That is the only way I can see out of this, since I don't see them drafting articles of impeachment.

And if he DOES reinstitute the draft, the Skank Twins need to be first up for it. If I'm expected to sacrifice MY kids, the least he can do is sacrifice HIS.

What distresses me most right now is that we will be dealing with this shit long after this loser leaves office, no matter what the Democrats do.
