Since the day that Bush & Co. took office back in January of 2001, they have committed outrages virtually every day for almost six years now. And after each outrage, we thought it couldn't get worse. But it did.
From stolen elections, through an illegal war, to unconscionable tax cuts for the super-wealthy at the expense of everyone else, to denying both foreigners and Americans the right to counsel, or even a hearing. And then, finally and inevitably to the torture of human beings.
Then there's the screwing of veterans who expected help from their country when they returned, only to find that much of the promise of caring for them and their families had been cut.
And then we all watched on TV as a great American city drowned and no one was there to help. And even now, over a year later, the majority of victims of Katrina are still dislocated, depressed, forgotten, or ignored.
A thousand other outrages could be added to this list of man's inhumanity to man, but is it really necessary? All of these outrages and crimes have been committed by men who believe they have the "God-given" right to do whatever they want to do.
Bush/Cheney/Rove,(and Rumsfeld, who received a 19 gun salute and a hero's send off), are either power-mad criminals, or mentally deranged villains. But they weren't alone in their crimes. They were assisted by an American public who was either too lazy or too stupid to realize what was being done in their name.
Could things get any worse? You bet they can. After acting like "Gods" for so many years, these people have probably come to believe they are Gods. And this year's elections hasn't changed a thing in their world view. They really believe they can ignore the congress and do whatever it is they want to do, to anyone they want to do it to, and at any time and place they want to do it.
Right now, we're all "up" because we now control the congress. But it is imperative that we realize that the lunatics in control of the asylum won't just give up, kick back and wait out the next two years.
We'll have to fight them for every inch of progress we want to see. But let's not forget that they have a tremendous advantage. Bush/Cheney have their fingers on the controls of our nuclear arsenal. And until those fingers are pried away, no human being on this planet is safe.
And that's the bottom line. They can and will commit any outrage imaginable. But do you really believe that when it's time for them to go, they'll go alone? It's within their power to destroy the entire planet. And who's to stop them?
