Santa was a smoker!
Have at it!

===

The impact of what American's have lost in the age of political correctness may not be comprehended as one full blow, it may be instead the slow erosion of attrition. Florence Huffmaster and her innocent collection of Santa's are perhaps a close-up snapshot of a much larger picture.

Santa Clauss is rarely depicted with a pipe anymore. Huffmaster has noticed the increasing scaricity of pipe-smoking Santas. She's been collection Santa's with pipes for about 12 years. “They are really getting scarce. I'd say the last three years it's really getting to be an occasion to fine one,” said Huffmaster...

Huffmaster said friends and family members keep a lookout for the jolly fellows, but it's become harder and more special to present Huffmaster with a new item for her collection. “I think it's political correctness. They don't want to show Santa smoking.” said Huffmaster...

“The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth, the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath,” are the words written above Huffmaster's Santas with pipes collection. The librarians at DeMotte Library made a beautiful display and printed a banner with the words of the poem, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas to hang above the collection.

If you'd just give it a little effort.

28. You want condescending?
"Santa chose to quit, unlike the retards who still think sucking the addictive poison Altria pushes and stinking up every room they walk into is a great fucking idea."

That's condescending. The post above was simply a statement of fact. The representation of Santa no longer smokes, while many people still do.

4. Santa used to have an arch nemesis- The Krampus.

He used to do horrible things to naughty children.

Santa constantly evolves. I see no reason why he needs a pipe.

5. yep Santa likes to puff on his pipe, he likes a little spiked eggnog (I know
because I always leave him some on Christmas Eve and when I get up--it's gone!) and he also likes to eat, you can tell by his stomach which rolls like a bowl full of jelly.

10. When I was a kid, in addition to milk and cookies...
We hung a "Thank you for not smoking" sign for Santa. The custom started, so legend tells, when my dad's oldest sister asked her parents why she couldn't smell Santa's pipe come Christmas morning, seeing as how the smell of Uncle John's pipe would linger for days. The response was a stern look from my grandmother, who said that Santa knew her feelings about smoking in the house and was too polite to light up. The next year, Pat made a sign to remind Santa (she didn't want him to get into trouble) and a family tradition was born.

26. You never met my dad's mom
She was a no-nonsense, stern, lead-from-the-front woman whose word was law. And that was with the grandkids! I expect my Aunt Pat had Santa's best interests at heart.

(My grandmother was also one of the most patient and liberal -- in all senses of the word -- people I've had the priviledge to know. Probably from being both the daughter of Nebraska pioneers and the holder of a Masters Degree in Education, earned in the mid 1930s when very, very few women went to college.)

Chong: how does he make the reindeer fly around the world in one night?
Cheech: it's the magic dust
Chong: oh, the magic dust
Cheech: he gives some to the reindeer, some to santa clause, some to the elves, some more to santa clause, some more to santa clause....

16. The fact that we are
even having a debate on whether or not smoking Santa's trump whatever point people are trying to make on this issue is a sad, pathetic statement.

Leave people and their choices alone.

But nobody's point has been trumped. please don't tell me that people on both sides of the debate have not gotten their points across in about 18 threads and 4 languages. :0
