Re: The Surge: "Harry Reid Had A Moment of Political Cowardice"
This is what I heard from some Joan Walsh woman from Salon on Scarborough Country. She was talking about his apparent approval of a "temporary surge". I can't disagree with her sadly.

1. The Democratic Party represents one microphone
Unfortunately, there are several voices that need to be heard. The anti-war voice tends to be neglected.

2. I guess he forgot the DEMOCRATS are in power now?
I don't know, but it didn't sit well with me. But then the vast majority of Americans don't like the idea of a troop "surge" either.

3. It was a moment of political insanity, and moral bankruptcy.
Like his backing of the Bush's Iraq War Resolution.

I don't know why folks say it is cowardly when politicians take wildly unpopular stands, like sending more troops to Iraq.

It is much worse than being a coward.

forward to? Harry Reid stands alone with the cheese.....no one else agrees with *bush but *bush..... and apparently old Harry .. and oh yes, McCain who is sinking like a rock

JHC, what the hell is this guy thinking? What will the American people do when the idiot in chief sends thousands more to the killing fields and old Harry says, bring it on?

What will we do? nothing seems to matter, nothing, full steam ahead into the steaming pile of shit

6. Maybe Reid is giving busholini more rope?
Busholini has little to lose with this "Surge". If it works out he will be vindicated. If it doesn't he can say that he tried his best to succeed in Iraq.

7. The problem is that there will be no end to all the 'tries'
bush is stalling until he's out of office and then he can blame his successor for losing. I think that is something harry needs to understand

12. There's another, more insidious reason for the stalling
Bush and his cronies haven't sucked the last drop of Blood Money from that country for his pals, and probably for his offshore account as well.

They will stall, and stall, and stall, for any number of insane reasons until ALL of the Blood has been drained from this turnip.

Think about it, how many more BILLIONS will be funneled into rich pockets for every damn DAY this insanity goes on?

They are worse than leeches or tapeworms, as a true parasite understands that if you KILL the HOST, then YOU WILL DIE TOO.

That man needs to be removed TODAY by all legal means available, NOW.

9. OK, fine, if he wants blanket amnesty, then it's fair that we also include a provision that...
punishes every last employer who knowingly exploited these people just so they can get around labor standards and the minimum wage to increase their profit margins.

11. Same
You spend months following elections, and supporting candidates, in some cases volunteering for phone banks or stuffing envelopes. You donate what you can. You canvass for Democrats and encourage friends to vote for them. And it works- they take the majority. It's our moment to do what we've been saying all along.....But instead, our leadership rubber-stamps Bush's "stay the course" approach on Iraq (actually worse than "stay the course"). It makes one wonder whether one's efforts are better directed elsewhere.
