Anyone hear Howard Zinn on Democracy Now?
I just sat spellbound for the last hour listening to Howard Zinn on Amy Goodman`s Democracy Now. Zinn spoke on The Uses of History and the War on Terrorism, an electrifying speech I`ll never forget.

Zinn left me with some hope when he reminded listeners that change comes when "millions of people do little things" that at some point come together. I thought about how one DUer calls attention to a vigil or a petition or posts an email address where we can send opinions or ideas. I thought about our collective energy and our willingness to be activists. Know what? I`m proud to be a member of DU, proud of our efforts and our determination to make a difference.

Although Zinn`s description of us as a "marauding country" rang true, I`m deeply uplifted by DUers ready and willing to weigh in as a counterbalance. Little by little, step by step....and it all matters. That`s the beauty of it. Whatever we do, however small, really does count.

1. Yes, it was great!
Talked about how governments are the real terrorists, and the good 'ol U.S. of A. is the biggest terrorist of all.

2. Thank You! Zinn's speech will be the highlight of my day...
Tomorrow. Tonight I have to finish grading. BLECH!!!

I watched Zinn's "You Can't Be Neutral On A Moving Train" this past weekend - it is a documentary of his life and beliefs. I did not know he was a powerful figure in the Civil Rights movement. Alice Walker and Marian Wright Edelman were both inspired by him (among others).

Wow.
