One day after incoming Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said on the ABC program “This Week with George Stephanopoulos” that he'd entertain the notion of sending more troops to Iraq as part of a plan to have all troops removed within a year, the House Democratic Leadership has released a statement from Rep. Ike Skelton (D-MO), who will head the House Armed Services Committee in the 110th Congress this winter, that strongly criticizes the troop increase policy.

"The recent speculation in the press regarding an increase of 20,000 to 30,000 or even 50,000 troops in Iraq has left me with many concerns. I believe that this increase at best won’t change a thing, and at worst could exacerbate the situation even further. I am also extremely concerned about the additional burden that would be placed on the Army and Marine Corps."

Skelton adds, "I expect to be shown that any decision on future troop levels is based on a realistic assessment of the situation on the ground and sound strategy, not political assumptions and wishful thinking.... hey must be able to demonstrate a compelling need for each and every person deployed to Iraq."

1. I had a psychic vision
when gw was talking up war. It was .. they may need more troops to get ours out.
Do you think you can just pull up troops and move them out?
Rumsfeld, the master mind understands NOTHING about winning a conflict.
He only knows how to get people killed.

Our kids will be ducking and dodging to get the hell out of there. Foregone conclusion.
They may need another 20-50 to exit. Rescue mission. If that is the mission, to get them OUT, I'll vote for that.

This is a quagemire. Like quicksand. Whatever it takes to get them out, do it.

2. Any Dem officeholder who supports such a move, no matter how
"temporary", should be hounded from office.
