Another Billion down the crapper, way to go Homeland Security
I interrupt your daily dose of Hillary, Obama and Smoking threads for some actual news. (I really like how we are now combining lame threads. Obama vs Hillary, Obama Smokes)
The Dept Of Homeland security, after spending over a billion dollars has scrapped the U.S. Visit program. This is the program designed to track people who go in and out of the country. While I'm all for not tracking peoples movements, I really didn't need to flush a billion fucking dollars down the toilet to figure out that it was too costly to do this.

2. More for people leaving the country, but the value of DHS
has gone down the tubes even more. What are they good for? Has this department accomplished anything?

4. This is how campaign contributors are paid back
fat contracts with no accountability. The contractor could care less how well he performs, he's getting paid no matter what.

5. Yeah, the C&L link talked about the "accountability" factor.
The really sad part is, I bet that for half of what they already spent I could have come up with a working system to do what they wanted. It's gotten to the point where they don't even care anymore. In the few articles I have read about this, nowhere does anyone mention an audit of the expenditures. Just write it off and move on to the next fiasco.

7. All we need to do is let people register that they are still here
like they do in normal countries.

They are still here, spending their money. What is so horrible at that? But we have to have them leave after six months just on general principle that we don't want no furriners here too long!!!!!!

Our immigration laws are the stupidest ones on this planet, bar none.

8. A fourth person died in SC this week due to being on the ADAP waiting list,
along with 200 others. The governor needed to emergency approve $3 million for the coming year Tuesday at their budget meeting. I haven't called back to SC to find out the outcome and can't find it on the internet.

The $1 Billion would have fully funded ADAP throughout the country, or even better, got rid of ADAP and given Medicare to all HIV positive people at the moment they need medication, if not from the getgo.

Some Democrats and Republicans as well held up the FY07 funding over the new formulae -- HRC for one -- where urban centers that were at the epicenter of the beginning of the HIV pandemic in the US have always got more funding under Ryan White Titles than other parts of the country. Rather than have the money follow the patient, it follows the agency.

Not to diminish the impact of HIV in NYC or Chicago or LA or SF or Miami, but the places where cases are exponentially increasing is the South and the Midwest, especially amongs people of color.

Kayne West is right: George Bush doesn't care about black people.

But he doesn't care about anyone much without a portfolio, now does he.

Chertoff ought to be removed from office for his Katrina bungling alone. This is ridiculous. That is money flushed into some fatcats' gullet.
