Specter candidate to switch to Democratic Party?
With the Administration defying trip to Syria and Israel and his anti- patriot act stance, plus the emails he is sending to his constituents(I am one) touting his pro environmental support I seriously t5think Specter wants to got Blue. What can we do to make this happen? He would probably do it if given back the head of the Judiciary Committee.

1. He's been a Republican too long to switch now
He also lacks a spine to question the administration.

9. Did you know that he was a Democrat at one time?
Edited on Sat Dec-16-06 10:23 AM by I Have A Dream
Here's a quote from the first article that I found which discusses it:

"He was a Democrat, but the only openings were in the GOP, so he switched to fight. In Philadelphia at that time, the Republicans were the goo-goo, liberal party, so the switch was not so drastic."

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1282/is_n13_v47/ai_17238340

(I didn't read the entire article, so please don't judge me on the article itself.)

16. The last time the Republicans were the goo goo Liberal party was during Lincoln's term.
How old is Spector anyway. I know he was the one that produced the "Magic Bullet" that killed JFK...

17. Haaaa! The term "goo goo Liberal party" made me laugh.
As I said, I was just looking for something that stated that he had been a Democrat at one time.

It's my understanding that he's 76 years old.

Keith Olbermann said that Specter always caves in the end.

3. Damn... NO WAY I'd favor giving Specter Judiciary...
Edited on Sat Dec-16-06 10:13 AM by hlthe2b
Have you forgotten how much damage has come to this country as a result of Specter's "talk tough 2 mintues, then bend over totally and COMPLETELY" to the Administraation's every whim policies in that committee?

Leahy deserves that chairmanship and I sure as hell trust him to do the right thing over Specter...

4. Send Him A Letter
Recognize (and thank him) for his voting record, but tell him as long as he is a Republican, he is enabling the administration's abuses. For example, Specter has a good pro-choice voting record, but as long as he is a Republican, he is enabling people who would take away our Reproductive Freedom.

Be respectful, though - not accusatory. Tell him you are "concerned" that good moderate voices like his are being minimized by the Republican party as it moves to the Right, whereas the Democratic Party is moving more towards the center (no need to mention how it distresses us proud Liberals).

5. What has his behavior been like?
When he headed the committee before, did he make decisions that were helpful or harmful to freedom in America? Why would he be given power again if all he's going to do is vote against freedom, progressive causes, and justice?

6. He's Representing Scotland...He's Their Liebermann...
especially now since he's got a bunch of payback to give to the booosh regime and other Repugnicans. He was roughed up a bunch to hold onto his committee chairmanship (the "liberal media" made little of this at the time) as well as being on the outside of deals more often than on the inside. He surely remembers the "Club for Growth" and that itsy-bitsy primary challenge in '04 as well. But he's got more to gain by being a pain in their ass than in ours.

He'll be one of the "go-to" people who can get Democrats to cross-over or sign off on deals that will be one of the few ways the minority can show "accomplishment" in '08. He's going to line up with people like Gordon Smith, Susan Collins and other "moderates" or "mavericks" to weasel deals from either Democrats or this regime and be more of a player rather than less of one.

This Mideast trip is his sticking his tongue out at booosh and giving him the cover to now come out against this invasion. I don't think he was comfortable with his vote in the first place...and now can get some payback...or parlay it into some kind of deal.

While being anti-war is all but status quo for Democrats, it's gonna be the big thing for the Repugnicans...especiallly those who see this regime and invasion as being their ticket to another election night trainwreck in '08.

10. No way Harry Reid
will screw Pat Leahy by giving the Judiciary to Arlen. Of course, no way is Arlen gonna leave the puke party.

14. Arlen is a toad.
His treatment of Anita Hill- and by extension, all women- was one of the most revolting things i've ever witnessed. Aside from that, there's virtually no way Reid could get away with shunting Leahy aside. Leahy's even more senior than Specter. Specter has served for 26 years. Leahy for 32.

But when they squeeze his berries, he caves to easy to be a Democrat.
