Gore is not going to run for president in '08
I heard it myself. On the Ellen de Generes show, today, 12/15. He said he's "lost his love of politics." I think that settles that. Sorry, Gore fans. Hopefully he will do even more for the country being involved in environmental issues.

1. Good exactly why he should run
because there is very little to love about politics. Al is the man that can bring integrity back to a broken and corrupt game.

2. He should sued in to service ,and I have faith he could be swayed
Pelosi says "No Impeachment" instead of saying nothing about it ,Dean dem's ,Hillary Dem's and Obama is the medias designated treat ,why? Because MSM means to keep it in the hands of the 1% and the only way Media can be exposed for what it is ,is to have a government that is forthcoming ,Ran by a man like president Gore.

No problem with me. He is a good man and a good choice and I trust him.

5. It is a long time before the 08 elections, there is no rush.
Gore can watch the parade for a while.

9. Nah, there's a rush for the folks who are pining for certain other specific candidates.
Because they know that whenever Gore's name is mentioned in a poll around here, he beats everyone else by a huge margin... including a certain media picked so-called "front runner" that we're supposed to roll over and accept as the inevitable nominee. :eyes:

25. Well, there's one guy he either doesn't beat around here by
a huge margain or, sometimes, loses to.

And that guy's not a media darling, either.

Still, Gore or Clark would be fine with me. :)

7. then we're fucked.
NONE of the other candidates will do a damn thing to make the necessary changes to the way things are- they're ALL cut from the same politics-as-usual mode.

8. "That settles that". You'll excuse me if I don't take yours as the final word.
I do find it interesting how much of a hard-on some folks have to get his name OUT of consideration. For instance, most of the Hillary fans here would just as soon have a root canal as post a poll with him as one of the choices.

Go figure.

12. plenty of good choices
There are plenty of good choices, such as Obama, Richardson, Edwards, or Wesley Clark. I would take any of those over our current president. Of course some people here would choose Donald Duck over our current president....

Seriously, there are a lot of good candidates. The thing is that these guys should work together and set up the cabinet within the year. The best way I can think of to defeat the GOP in 2008 is to have a united front and bring in all of the candidates. That way we can focus during the year of 2008 on the moderates and independent vote.

15. Edwards and Clark could surprise the party.
I think Clark will be a much stronger candidate this time around. He has paid his dues, learned a lot, made a lot of friends. Edwards has refined his chops. Both candidates worked their butts off for the 2006 candidates.

It will be a good primary season.

13. Fair enough.
I admire him a LOT, but it's his choice how he can best change the world. A part of me cries thinking he won't run. A different part of me is just proud he's among us.

16. The question is
Has he lost his love for Americans?

I don't believe he has. He has plenty of time to make his decision, but what you've posted is no more than what's been being said for some time now.

At the present time his work will focus on global warming, as it should. It would do his cause an injustice if he were to announce now that he plans to run. All of the conversation would then be focused on his plans rather than on global warming as he now prefers. However, this is only 2006 and he has ample time to switch into his political garb in the future, if that's what he decides to do. Remember, he said just back in September that he hadn't ruled out a second run for president.

All of his doors are still open and it's up to him which one he decides to walk through.

18. Gore makes bombshell pronouncment on Ellen's show?
I don't think so. The last time speculation was brewing about whether Gore was running or not, he called Leslie Stahl and made his decision not to run 2004 on a show with much higher visiblity. In other words, if Gore were going to completely rule out running I think he would do it in a more public way and his PR people would issue a press release.

Besides, if he said he was running now he would put a target on his back. He's getting a lot of good publicity from his book, movie and DVD right now. The Oscar buzz alone will keep his name in the spotlight through the end of February. Then he can take a couple of months off before his book comes out to rest up for the book tour and television appearances. IMHO, he's in no rush to rule it out. He's keeping his name in the press and playing them like a fiddle.

21. Of course on Monday I heard an interview with him...
.. and it was current, that had two very telling quotes..

"We have to fight the Climate Crisis by dealing with the Democracy Crisis"

"I have not ruled out becoming a candidate again"

I guess that settles that :D :D

Does he mean he's lost his love of partisan poltics? What exactly? I have often heard him say that global warming should be a bi-partisan issue.

And I'm not disappointed if he doesn't run. I don't think he had any realistic chance of winning anyway, but that's just my opinion.

27. Loss of love of politics doesn't mean anything
If he'd have said "I am not running for President in 2008" we'd be hearing it from many places. That is a scoop all would want a piece of. Additionally, as was n oted upthread, he wouldn't have made such a big announcement on Ellen's show, he'd have shot for a bigger audience and, I think, a more serious venue.

As to the quote you provide, that is meaningless in regard to 08 speculation. I have lost a lot of love I had for the game over the last few years. That hasn't stopped me from stepping up when I saw it was needed, I highly doubt it would deter President Gore either. Losing love of the game doesn't mean you no longer realize it's importance or cannot play it well. I'd just as soon see some of that emotion dissipate as that makes for clearer and more calculated thinking. Al would not worry much about being perfect, he'd be all about telling it like it is, as he has been for the past 6 years.

I think you may be misinterpreting his words but hey, I could be wrong. We'll know for sure sometime next year I guess.

30. Gore could get nominated in a brokered Democratic convention
Edited on Sun Dec-17-06 10:17 PM by zulchzulu
Not that I'm a big fan of Michael Beschloss, but he said this regarding brokered conventions:

"One example was the Republicans in Chicago, 1920. There was a deadlock among a number of candidates, a number of ballots, until you finally had leaders of the party retreating into the famous back smoke-filled rooms, and that's where that term first came from, in which they decided on a dark horse, Senator Warren Harding of Ohio. They agreed to throw their votes to him. And so the result was that Harding, who was a figure whom many Americans had never heard of, turned out to be the nominee at the end of that week, something that was a surprise to everyone but the only solution to a very divided convention. Four years later, 1924, the Democrats had roughly the same experience, but they went actually through nine very hot days to 103 ballots, until they finally nominated John Davis, who was a rather obscure West Virginia lawyer, as their compromise candidate, after this great nine days of very raucous divisions that threatened to tear apart that party."

http://www.pbs.org/newshour/convention96/retro/beschloss_history.html

It could happen with Gore if it's a tie with Edwards, Clinton (H), Kerry and Obama...the difference in Beschloss' analysis is that Gore IS known.
