Holy @#@!! Local TV Station Says CIA "Aided" Rise of Pinochet >
This morning I was doing some research to refresh my understanding of the Chile Coup of 1973 and the circumstances that allowed Pinochet to rise to power. Not one single article I read admitted to U.S. involvement; neither the CIA, State Department, Naval Intelligence, or any other U.S. agency. All has been kept quietly under wraps. Of course, if you've watched the movie "Missing" with Sissy Spacek the concept of American involvement in the Chilean Coup is not surprising, it's just that it's always been vehemently denied.

But you can imagine my surprise when I turned on the 12:00pm news here in Dallas. Commenting on today's story of Pinochet's death the reporter candidly said (paraphrased), "Pinochet...who the CIA aided." This is the very first time that I know of that a U.S. news outlet disclosed the CIA's involvement in the 1973 coup.

Unfortunately I do not have a link. The news station's website can be viewed at www.myfoxdfw.com, but it appears in their online edition no mention of the CIA's involvement is cited.

2. This has been fairly well known for thirty years now
No, it hasn't been well publicized during that time, but if you've had your ear to the ground it's been fairly common knowledge. Just another piece in the pattern of CIA involvement in the politics of Central and South America, from Guatemala all the way up through the recent CIA aided coup attempt with Chavez.

After all, we've got to keep this hemisphere Communist and Leftist free, and friendly to American corporate interests, no matter whose country's sovereignty were violating:eyes:

4. US involvement EVERYWHERE, not just Central and South America
Do not forget that it was the United States which put Saddam Hussein into power, and American lies which long covered up Hussein's culpability in the genocide of the Kurds.

3. CNN and NPR also had similar reports that used the term "aided"
or worse. Finally, maybe some people will realize that he US intel services have done crap like this and won't be so naive about it.

11. They seem to bet on Americans getting so caught up in their own lives
they have neither time nor interest in knowing what's going on elsewhere in their names, and with their tax dollars.

They count on mass indifference and ignorance as their protection.

Same with fighting bogus wars, and the draft: if Americans believe something of theirs is at stake, they wouldn't go along with it as easily.
